So i bought ssx 3 on my xbox one awhile back. I recently got an xbox 360 and logged into my account on it and downloaded ssx 3, but it will not play. The cover is grayed out, and on the bottom it actually says xbox one. I get an error saying the game could not start when trying to open it. Dashboard is up to date also. I guess my question is, will this game work on the xbox 360 or is it only meant for xbox one? Is there anything else I can try to get it working if it is? I've redownload 3 times, formatted my hdd, and made sure all updates were applied. Thank you for any help.

Do you have a hard drive on/in the 360? While you can get away with USB for some things on the 360 it is necessary for xbox stuff (mainly as the original xbox had a hard drive and used it for many things)

As far as I am aware it is xbone only for the downloadable option. The disc version is noted as compatible in PAL and NA xboxes so you might be able to find that.

For a 360... if you did a RGH hack (which would cost you online play on the 360) you might be able to try the modded xbox compatibility/emulator thing and see if it gets somewhere with that.

I'm not sure what it would do in the normal dash, but in fsd or aurora, the system usually freezes on the xbox splash screen if the compatibility files are not present. you need hdd fixer iirc. simply formatting doesn't matter. if the avatar is a grey silhouette, you don't have the latest hdd files. I once heard that the compatibility files contain a whitelist for games that are playable, so it may not be in there causing it to appear grey. though odd that it mentions xbox one. maybe the game can't be backtracked from the xbone to the 360. I don't own an xbone, so I have no experience with this.

I have an hdd. It's an official 60gb and says microsoft next to it on the storage screen. This xbox is 100% legit. No rgh or anything....on this one lol. I guess going the route of buying an original disc for this game may be in order if I can simply do that. It just boggles my mind that I can find it in the xbox store and download it onto my xbox from there and it doesnt work. On another note about it saying xbox one on the bottom. I put in my disc of rainbow six: vegas 2 and the image shows xbox one on the bottom of it also so I think that is just telling me that the game is also xbox one compatible. One post I found last night about "xbox originals" in the store is that they were made for the xbox one so I guess I'm just out of luck for the moment. Even though when I bought the game it stated that I could also download it onto xbox 360 last year. Thank you for replies.

you do seem to get screwed over if going legit. that's what's happened to me with the switch anyway. it may not be cross play compatible if that's a thing with anyone but sony. as much as I hate sony, at least they give a lot of free stuff away.
