Stadia VP John Justice leaves Google following restructuring attempts

Stadia_03_19_19.jpg

Google Stadia is going through some major changes, lately, after the company announced that they'd be shutting down all its first-party internal development teams. Google's game streaming service can add Stadia's vice president and head of product to the list of people no longer working there, too, following a report from The Information, revealing that John Justice has left Google. This isn't the first time Stadia has lost their VP, either, as Jade Raymond, who served as their previous vice president, left in order to form indie studio Haven. Prior to this, Justice was actively involved in the Stadia project, frequently doing interviews and discussing future plans for the platform, and as recently as December 2020 stated that Stadia would try to better handle feature announcements and claims, after controversy regarding Stadia not reaching its advertised 4k60fps performance.

No one's surprised but I hope that some other company steps up to compete with xcloud. From where I'm standing, microsoft is dominating. Without competition, cloud streaming will die before it even begins
Actually, xcloud while having a great library, does not have the best performance compared to Geforce Now and Stadia. On top of that, xcloud would be the least advertised of the bunch. Gamepass however, has been one of the best services. Funny enough, Stadia has the most robust system but its poor library and negative reception is killing it.

So if only they didn't want us to rebuy every game at full price and just gave us access to a virtual desktop like geforce now they would have done better?

Google obviously has no idea how to run a gaming company.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

"neGaTiVe LaTenCY", they sure are evolving backwards.
lol, I dont understand what they thought would happen. Their business model alone is a huge failure. I also have to say streaming still sucks, its convenient on paper but it looks worse than a ps3 game and has added input lag that is enough to drive me nuts. I cant see why anyone wouldnt just spend a few hundred bucks on a console for a much better library and experience, if you can afford the internet connection needed for streaming then what are you doing with stadia instead of a ps4?

Here is the issue.....

Remote play / Xcloud there is ZERO reason to own this if you have a PlayStation or Xbox. Look at Facebook and Instagram you may have so many clones but once again it's hard to compete

Also a streaming service where you still have to buy each game at full price has no chance in hell, in other media streaming is more appealing because of the amount of content you have access to.. that is the selling point of it. People will deal with lower quality for quantity, but they didnt sub to Netflix to avoid buying a bluray player.

That's what happened to the music industry to combat against the piracy they just made it affordable. Nowadays who is really pirating music ?

xcloud has a pretty terrible library for the quality the service offers
sub 1080p, 30fps, massive amounts of latency, super long load times. it's like they're running the games on modified base xbox ones and then streaming them over
and i've got super fast internet so that doesn't really help

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
    +1
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
