Status Monitor Overlay

This is an overlay homebrew. You need to have installed Tesla environment to use it.

Tool contains six modes to choose, each one is explained here.
It also supports modifying overlay through config file, more here.

If Tesla won't show in dock, you need to first start Status Monitor, then put Nintendo Switch to dock.

What is currently supported:
- CPU Usage for each core (Cores #0-#2 are used by apps/games, Core #3 is used by OS, background processes and also Tesla overlays)
- GPU and RAM Load
- CPU, GPU & RAM target and real frequency
- Used RAM categorized to: Total, Application, Applet, System, System Unsafe (not supported by FWs <5.0.0)
- SoC, PCB & Skin temperatures (Skin temperature not supported by FWs <5.0.0)
- Fan Rotation Level
- PFPS and FPS (With help of SaltyNX 0.7.0+. Not installing it results in not showing FPS counters on full and mini overlay)
- And more

Requirements:
- You need Tesla Menu 1.2.3+
- For additional features you need sys-clk 2.0.0_rc4 or newer + SaltyNX 0.7.0 or newer

Screenshots (from version 1.0.0):

Thanks to:
- RetroNX channel for helping with coding stuff
- SunTheCourier for sys-clk-Overlay from which I learned how to make my own Tesla homebrew
- Herbaciarz for providing screenshots from HDMI Grabber

FAQ:
Q: This homebrew has any impact on games?
A: Negligible, you won't see any difference. Almost everything is done within 1% of Core #3 at stock clocks, other cores usage is below 0.001%. Only high refresh rate for Full mode can take up to 4% of Core #3.

Troubleshooting can be find here at the end:

Status Monitor 0.11 released
Code:
Code was changed to make each CPU core independent, so they will not block each other in case of heavy load.
Changed exit button from holding Left Stick to pressing Left Stick + Right Stick.

Nice :D
Could print info about CPU/GPU speed (when overclocked)? I know EdiZon overlay includes this too, but it's rather heavy overlay, I would prefer use just one overlay for system status display.

Edit: Oh, I see it's in the planned features, I need to learn reading :P

This is going to be perfect for benchmarking, especially for the people at Digital Foundry who previously had no reliable way to decern temperatures. Can't wait.

Ok, everything is ready for 0.2. I'm waiting for something from my one colleague and it will be released.
Got a tip from CTCaer where I can get GPU load, so this will probably be added in 0.3.

Wow! This is freaking awesome! Cant wait for v0.2
Thanks for your work! Is any chance to add fps counter? :)
If there is, it's so small that I don't even know if it exists. There is many stuff on switchbrew unexplored, so maybe there is something that will output something that can be used to calculate FPS.

0.2 Update is live
Code:
# Added:
> CPU:
- Actual frequency
> GPU
- Actual frequency
> RAM
- Actual frequency
- Used memory categorized to: Total, Application, Applet, System, System Unsafe
> Temperatures
- SoC temperature
- PCB temperature
- Skin temperature
- Fan rotation level

# Changes/fixes:
- Changed interval for everything to 1s
- Changed refresh rate to 1 FPS, which reduced homebrew usage of Core #3 from 26 percent points to 1 percent point
- Core Usage now always starts at 0%

GPU Load is already resolved. It will be added in 0.3 which will include new version of libtesla which will enable better text formatting and reduce code for drawing strings.

This is a very useful overlay, thank you. In addition to the per core CPU stats can you add a total CPU stat?

I'm confused, why do you regard that as a reason not to show a total CPU usage stat?
Because for me that means it shows no valuable information. I want to create second mode - minimal. Current mode will be called advanced or Standard and then maybe I will add total to it.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
