Are you ready for the reveal of the latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character? Of course you are! After teasing a livestream two days ago, it's nearly time to see what Sakurai has up his sleeve, and who will be the next addition to the Smash roster. Will it be Dante from the Devil May Cry series? Will we ever get Rayman? There's only one way to find out, and that's by watching the steam live as it airs, or checking out the recap thread right here! The video will begin at 15:00 CET, or 6 am PT.

And so, it begins. "Hardly anyone knows what we're revealing today, even Nintendo staff", teases Sakurai at the opening of the video.

It's Fire Emblem! Male Byleth is in. At the end, we see female Byleth, using Claude, Dimitri, and Edelgard's weapons. It's not just another sword user (TM)

Releases January 29th.

We now get a briefing on what Fire Emblem is. It's all about Fire Emblem. He's just talking about Fire Emblem's history.

Byleth uses the Sword of the Creator, which can extend, as well as borrowing the axe, lance, and bow from the other lords from Three Houses.

Garreg Mach Monastery is the included stage for the character. It'll cycle throughout all the different locations from the game, such as the marketplace. Certain Three Houses characters will be in the background, like Dimitri and Ingrid.

The Spirit Board will have new 3H characters.

Music from the game will be added, along with remixes.

Mii fighter costumes for Altair (Assassin's Creed), Rabbids, Mega Man X, Mega Man.EXE, and Cuphead headed to the game.

More fighters are planned! SIX new fighters are planned to be added in the future!

If you buy the Fighter's Pass 2, you get a bonus Mii costume modeled after an armor from Breath of the WIld.

To close out the video, we get a trailer showing off Abyss and the Ashen Wolves, a fourth house in Fire Emblem Three Houses, with new characters to teach. Cinder Shadows launches Feb 13 as DLC for FE: 3H.

The salt from this DLC reveal is pretty damn good. I don't care about Smash, but I do like Fire Emblem a lot, so this is fun to watch.

Another Smash game, another obligatory Rule 34 Emblem character. That's all that series is to yours truly at this point.

Even better is the fact that they're still playing the fake hype card by keeping the next season of DLC a secret. Even MK11 is just revealing who all of the characters are in the DLC all at once at this point. I take it that you have to plop down another $60 to get this pass?

While I liked Joker and Terry due to how unlikely they were ever going to be for Smash, Hero is from a series I have no experience with, and while I get why people were excited for Banjo and Kazooie, especially given Rare's legal status as being owned by Microsoft, he's another "so-Nintendo" pick. Byleth, hell, just modern Fire Emblem in general looks like the worst parts of modern anime all in one big package: Mary Sue protagonist that's a genius and can do everything, they can be shipped with just about everyone, and everything is always solved with The Power of Friendship. It feels like it's made for a board room that only cares about how much money it can make as opposed to taking risks.

I have been watching some more anime lately, and I went from watching an all-time classic in Akira, to an all time trash heap like Future Diary who's only redeeming quality is a pink-haired stalker girl and a protagonist who makes fucking Shinji Ikari look like Chuck Norris by comparison. Between the two pieces of entertainment that are classified under the same style of animation, Akira has by far better animation and had better production values as opposed to Future Diary, where cities, while not ruined, are awfully lifeless. Where's everyone? And even when there are other people in a scene, they usually aren't animated very well, if at all!

I know, it was a different time and place, but honestly? It describes how I feel about these newer Fire Emblem compared to the older ones. It feels like, in The New Ten's (one of the names for the last decade) the trend became to appeal to your fans regardless if what they want is the trashiest thing that any Deviantart poster could come up with. Hence, why I haven't exactly been the most thrilled to play the Fire Emblem games even with Awakening and the like, and why I couldn't give a rat's ass about Byleth the Mary Sue/Gary Stu.
