Overall I did like the SC SD. It worked fine for me (when the updates were made and/or someone else released patches) - so overall I was pleased with it's NDS support. I really didn't care about extra features like skinning, etc. It was well worth the money and likewise, when I bought it, it was the cheapest solution and have by far the best compatibility (at least for the games I was interested in playing).
I know all of the major players are focusing on Slot-1 solutions, so it may just be time before the all abandon their Slot-2 support, but Romman had to be nagged quite a bit to release his first update in months when several new roms did not work (around the Tetris timeframe). And he seemed to get better with updates but then nothing. He also told me, in confidence, a lot of new features they were planning for the Slot-2 and none of them came to fruition. I have looked at and even considered the DSOne as a potential Slot-1 solution but the fact that Romman does not seem to care much about frequent updates, support, new features, etc. it swayed me away. I think it did (perhaps still does) have potential to be one of the best solutions, but after reading all the glowing reviews of the R4 and seeing the frequent updates and new features they continue to add I knew I could not go wrong with it.
Again, I think the SC SD is a great piece of hardware, but the commitment from Romman and the rest of the team is just not there and ultimately that will cost them customers. I can't tell you how many threads I have read where people went from SC SD/CF to R4 or M3 Simply. This is nobody's fault other then Rommans. So for those still using SC, best of luck, but from my experience, I would seriously consider another solution (R4 or M3) if you are still running a Slot-2 SC and are looking to upgrade.
