A few years ago, in 2011 to be specific, i brought a SuperCard DSTwo card which worked flawlessly in all ways, but at the end of the year i stopped using, a year later i found it again and i decided to check it out cause i wanted to play Animal Crossing, but after putting it into my DSi, it shut itself so i tried to turn it on again and the same thing happened, after two more tries the DSi just didn´t turn on anymore, which was weird because before putting the card it was working perfectly well.

After this i tried with DS Fat and the same thing happen, but at the second try, after that i didn´t mess with the card anymore and i just dropped it, i want to add that the DSi stills turn of randomly, for example, if i press the Power button, it can effectively turn on, but the problem is that i never know when it will be, it could take days or weeks, or sometimes im trying to press the power button again and again and maybe it will suddenly turn on, also, when is turned on the power button doesn´t work, so i dont know when it will shut down, so i have to either wait or simply go to the update section and turn it off from there.

The DS Fat had a worst luck though, i can manage to turn it on sometimes (Much less than the DSi, maybe a few times trough the year) , i tried to swap the battery with another one but still didn´t fix it, and sometimes it efectively turns on, but like the DSi, it just turns on and off at random moments.

In 2013 i tried to buy another SuperCard DSTwo for my O3DS, thinking that the previous experience was a one kind thing, and that it wouldn´t happen again, it worked flawlessly for about a few months, it was pretty good but...one day i was playing with it and, suddenly, the 3DS left dpad started moving by itself, i was genuinely afraid, because at the next day it was the same, it fixed for a few minutes two weeks later but it stayed like that, until around late 2014 it miraculously worked well again and has been working since then,i have to add that i tried formatting the system and it didn´t fix it, so i dont really know what it was, or what kind of problem the SuperCards i´ve brought had, i haven´t found anyone who have encountered this problems and i genuinely can´t believe that im the only one who had them.

were all of your devices new when you bought them?

Not exactly, but they where working perfectly fine, also, the 3DS at the time was 2-3 years old
then maybe the problem wasn't the dstwo flashcart, maybe you bought faulty handhelds, it would be extremely weird for any flashcart to cause that kind of behavior, those consoles probably had some problem with the power circuit and the D-pad.

Oh, sorry, they where new back when i brought them, i think i got confused by the question, i´ve had them for many years and they where working perfectly fine, also, the first time that happened i tried to turn it on without the DSTwo and it turned on well, so i tried to turn it on with it and it happened, with the DSi i recall inserting a normal cartridge to see if the slot was the problem, and it worked fine so i swapped it back to the DSTwo, and it turned off

Perhaps the cards caused a power surge somehow and shorted the systems or broke a fuse?

That's what I thought. Dstwo has a CPU on the card and maybe it's faulty, causing damage to the console.
I had no problems with mine, only the battery draw because of that CPU.

I only know of one cart that caused blown fuses and that was the N5. The Supercard DSTWO has, to my knowledge, never caused hardware issues. Well beyond the battery drain issue, but that one is the fault in the system not being able to boot the CPU on the DSTWO into sleep mode.
I am going to be honest though, you shouldn't have continued using that cart. The second it blew the first system, should have been a sign that something was wrong with your DSTWO. You should have tossed and bought a new one.

What were you using the cartridges for? What software did you run?

Uh? You mean the battery draw? It's not a problem. It's how the cartridge works. The CPU it has doesn't have a sleep mode, it seems and it keeps drawing power. The extra CPU is used for GBA emulation. Doesn't matter if you are on the 3DS main menu, the card keeps draining battery. Easy solution is powering off the device.

That's probably why the card broke those DS and 3DS.

But, it seems interesting that both cards caused problems to both systems, the 3DS thing happened with my second SuperCard which i got in 2013, two years after the first card. My 3DS work´s fine since 2015 so i´ve been able to use it perfectly since then so i wonder, why did the SuperCard caused the buttons problem and why it fixed itself?, i mean, aside from the DPad sometimes it also was the right direction and the L Button, also, the system update didn´t fix it cause i tried multiple times with different updates and nothing fixed it before, not even formatting?, i still hold the hope that someday the DSi will fix itself, but i doubt it

Out of interest, where'd you buy the cards from?

I really don´t remember the second one but i checked around here about the site at the time, and it was pretty reliable. The first time it was from a card seller in Mercado Libre, a popular ebay-like site in Latin America, and i remember that the dealer had a pretty good reputation, with people backing it up, and the product came perfect so it was good.

Hmm. It must've shorted for whatever reason then. Weird how both did it though. Have you cracked open the cards to check for burns?

I tried, in fact, i still have the card without the case but it doesn´t work, as far as i´ve tested, i think its from the second one

As far as i´ve seen, there was nothing bad with both cards. It was a shame cause they are good pieces of hardware, but they are a little unstable

Cartridge might get condensate inside because of temperature difference, damaging motherboard of cartridge and consoles itself. Do you store your consoles and cartridge in dry place?
