Superhot: Mind Control Delete launches this month, will be free for owners of the original game

There's more Superhot on the way, as Superhot: Mind Control Delete is ready to leave early access and launch as a full game. Having been in development since 2017, Superhot: Mind Control Delete is "four times larger" than the original game, and exists as a standalone DLC, which will be available free to those that purchased the first game on Steam, Origin, GOG, Epic, Xbox One, or PlayStation. The new content takes the foundation that those that have played Superhot should be familiar with--time only moves when you do--while adding in new mechanics, skills, enemies, and weapons. While no Nintendo Switch version of Mind Control Delete has been confirmed, the development team says if any players who purchased Superhot for the Switch would like to play it on PC, they'll be able to obtain a DRM-free copy of Mind Control Delete for no charge, as a bonus. It launches for the aforementioned platforms on July 16th.

the reason I said hate is because some are just outright refusing to buy it just cause it's not vr...
To each their own I suppose. Hardcore VR-only gamers are a very small niche audience at the moment, so don't let that discourage you. I show Superhot on the Humble Store for $8 currently, and it's definitely worth every cent of that even without the DLC (which people get free if they buy before the 16th).

well that's their right is it not, I played the original game, loved it, then I played the VR version and damn that was a perfect fit for a VR game, I can see how some people who only played the VR game might only want more of it in VR and aren't really too interested in a step back in terms of the experience, i'm kinda hoping they have already factored in the VR gameplay when developing the new content so it will either be playable in both VR and standard mode or incorporated into the VR version too, I know If I had the choice between the 2 I would certainly opt to play it in VR.....even though I bashed my knee going for some epic dive to dodge a bullet :rofl2:

According to the FAQ, it only applies to people who bought it.
Holy cow, check out that FAQ. What an enormous headache for the poor devs. I hope it works out for them.

...On the other hand, if it doesn't work out and there's a huge pile of news stories about their failed giveaway, it's free publicity.

If they incorporate some of the changes found in MCD, they could have another amazing VR game. More levels and ways to adjust your play style.

It would have to be tweaked, as some 'mods' or 'perks' don't really work in VR ( for example melee attack speed increase, no point to do that in VR).

Hopefully they have learned a lot during these 3 years and will apply some of it to a new VR game. They would be crazy not to.

-Edit instead of Double Post!-

@Chary Could you add that MCD will release July 16th to the OP? It's always nice to have an exact date ^_^. Also anyone who buys the original (non-VR) game before July 16th will get MCD free. As said in their steam post

I'm quite surprised they let it go on right up to release date. I though they would have stopped giving away free versions for purchases of the OG after the Early Access of MCD started.

The mechanics are a perfect fit for VR for sure, so it was an awesome experience...but very short. Even shorter than the base game, which itself isn't all that time consuming either.

Yeah, the default price on PSN (25€) is a bit steep for the title. That's why I purchased it for half the price when it was on sale and I still think it's a bit short. They tried to stretch the content by adding the challenge modes, but I only played a few levels and did not enjoy those - they're just frustrating.

I played the original version first which was a good game and lots of fun, but it's just a perfect experience for VR - I wouldn't want to go back to the regular version.

Well, if i bought it on Switch, it's because i didn't want to play it on PC.
Else, i would've bought it on PC.
No offense.

I've had the game in my Steam library all this time and still haven't played it...the VR version comes with the regular game, right?

Still, I might wait until I get out of debt to buy an Index. Or are those not the best compared to the other VR options out there, if cost isn't a factor?
I have a Quest I connect to a Shadow in another state. Works great!

No idea why they wouldn't just do VR first.
The original game is like a cute but boring tech demo.
Then they made it VR and it was absolutely incredible how fun it was because the game mechanics paired perfectly with full body movement passing time in the game.

Yea i'm in the "no vr = no buy" group, the original game was like a 4/10 overall, jank controls, quite short and repetitive, sold poorly and then superhotVR drops and was/is the best VR game to date 10/10 type vr experience but you could complete it in like 30 minutes. Now they decide to add content to the original game... and give it away for free?? Whoever is running this company has either never played the vr version or they sold their stocks and are trying to tank the company.

Cool! I need an excuse to go back to this! I loved the original, but it got too hard for me sooner than I'd anticipated... it ended up on the back-burner and I've not returned to it - some free DLC will remedy that!

So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
