Today I've been pondering about something that I couldn't get out of my head. Say I update to 5.3.2 and hack the WiiU so I can use Loadiine. Is it possible to revert the process somehow ?
Is it possible to update the firmware AFTER the hack ? Will it delete the hack ?

The main reason for this concern of mine is this: if a "proper" hack is released for the newest firmware, will I be able to us it ? What if it will brick the console ?

Loadiine is not a permanent hack. It goes away after rebooting so you have to reapply it every time you start it so you can always update to latest firmware if you so choose.

But what about the kernel exploit that has to be run first ? If it is something that voids the warranty, insn't it permanent ?

As far as i know it does not have that high a priority, its literally a stop and go exploit till something better comes along.

yes you can update the firmware after the hack
wii u's should always be able to upgrade, the hack is just exploiting the system. so it will not be exploitable again.

if ur scared of bricking your wii u, than ur in the wrong place pal.

Any info on what Firmware the Splatoon + Smash 4 bundle comes with?

Edit: from a bit of asking around, I believe this bundle should come with 5.4.0

As someone who was just gifted a Wii U on 5.4 and zero possibility of returning it to hunt for something lower, is there any reason to stay on 5.4 rather than updating to 5.5 so that I can take my new console owner trip to the eShop and get it over with?

Also, if I took the steps to set up TubeHax from the OP (my cheapo router doesn't allow for domain blocking) and I'm still getting the "Non-authoritative answer" return from kloth's lookup, any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong? I've checked and double-checked my connection settings to ensure that auto-obtain DNS is disabled and that the primary is 107.211.140.065 and the secondary zeroed out, yet still I get the above return when testing.

I do see an icon with a red 'X' showing in the lower-right corner however, stating "Update failed", so perhaps something is working somewhere.

If no one has any ideas, I'm going to try the CCProxy method someone linked a few posts back and see if that goes any better. Figured I would at least try to figure TubeHax out first since it sounds to be what everyone swears by at the moment.

That's what I've heard as well, and can confirm that the Smash Splat bundle I was gifted did indeed come with 5.4.0 out of the box.

Lowest firmware possible gives you the best chance at having compatibility with later exploits.

Trying to hack a 5.3.2 Wii U here
I managed to make it to the A/B choice between Normal and Modified Kernal exploit, however when I clicked B for Modified Kernal Exploit it took me to the home menu with a little message in the corner saying "Some Data Failed To Download" and an unfinished system update download in my download manager.
Now whenever I attempt to do the exploit again it just freezes every single time. Haven't been able to get to the exploit choice page ever since. I've tried the suggestions in the OP as well.

Anyone encounter this problem?

Thanks.

Another question while I am trying to figure all of this out. If I manage to block updates and remain on 5.4, that means no eShop and no way to spoof FW to pass mandatory version checks for games, right? No way to pick up DLC for Smash, for example, and no way to play any games that demand an update beforehand? Or at least until an exploit for 5.4 is released so that I can get to work.

The friend who bought the bundle for me is starting to bellow on about wanting to play Smash with me, so I'm trying to figure out how to make him happy while also delaying long enough for something to come down the pipe for 5.4.

You are in that annoying rift where u could update and hope 5.5.0 also gets an exploit, or wait and stay on 5.4.0 with no online access or ability to play games that need 5.5.0. You have to make the decision nobody on this site is going to tell you what to do with it. I assume that nobody has any clue when another exploit will be released or for what firmware, we are all kinda in the dark and working on helping people with the information we have available.

Gotcha. That's a serious bummer too. I had a ton of fun playing with homebrew stuff on my Wii and still use it as an emulation box even now. It would be really nice to have that sort of access on the Wii U, but it's a balancing act between waiting for good news and avoiding the gifter's annoyance over not using the console for its intended purpose.

Thanks a lot for the help.

The exploit must be run every time too. Nothing currently done on the Wii U is permanent, with the exception of spoofing to 5.5.0 because that overwrites the version.bin file on the system and it cannot be undone.

I get this message randomly after running different hacks, and I have my Wii U's MAC address blocked so it has zero internet access. I think it's just part of TubeHax DNS working. The freezing is just a coincidence, since I get the "some data has failed to download message" relatively often and have like a 90% success rate loading hacks.

Hello everyone!

Today I received my Wii U basic bundled with Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush, and I was happily surprised that the disc had the Firmware version 5.3.2 on it!
It was bought in Sweden from cdon.com on Black Friday.

The following info is on the back of the cover:
WUP P AXYP
TSA-WUP-AXYP-UK4

Cheers

Your Wii U was on 5.3.2 already, or you put in Kirby and updated via the disc and the system FW was then on 5.3.2? If the latter, please record the information on the top and bottom of the disc (near the inner ring). Thanks :)

Well if it helps, there is a 5.5.0 exploit they just haven't released it yet.....although I don't know when they will either. They gave a few situations on which they would release it.

The Wii U had FirmWare 4.0.2 on it and was not connected to the internet. I wanted to play Kirby and it said that I need to update, so I did. Afterwards, the system was on FW 5.3.2.
Here is the info from bottom of the disc, there is nothing on the top:

WUP-P-AXYP-EUR-0
MODEL NO. WUP-006(EUR)

Cheers
