The PlayStation 5 hasn't been out for long, but the time has already come for it to get a couple of new color choices. Rather than just the standard white-and-black scheme, PlayStation is introducing the Cosmic Red and Midnight Black DualSense controllers, the former of which has a metallic hue of red with black accents, while the latter features a charcoal black color with dark grey accents. Both controllers will be releasing next month, though the exact date will apparently vary depending on region and retailer. You can currently pre-order either on the official PlayStation Store.

Today, we’re thrilled to introduce two new colors that will be joining the DualSense controller lineup starting next month: Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. Midnight Black features two subtly different shades of black with light grey detailing to reflect how we view space through the night sky, and Cosmic Red offers a striking black and red design inspired by the unique vivid shades of red found throughout the cosmos.

What a novel idea to release multiple colors of popular hardware, with such a unique color like black. I'm sure no one could have anticipated the consumer demand for such a product.

To be clear, I'm not mocking Sony for releasing a black controller... I'm mocking them for not doing it sooner.

That red controller looks sexy AF. I'd buy one just for PC use. Too bad there's no guarantees they've fixed stick drift. This generation of consoles are getting the shaft.

I prefer it more than the white, but I still think 1 color is the way to go here.

I wish the face buttons on the black controller had the symbols in their respective color they've been over the years (green triangle, blue X, etc.), if it did, that would pretty much be my ideal looking PS5 controller.

Okay. I've made up my mind. I am selling my disc version PS5 for a few hundred in profit and just going to re-buy later on. All but confirms either an all black console will be packaged with the black controller, or that they will be selling official faceplates as the things are incredibly easy to take off.

I also have other reasons for wanting to sell. One is no Dolby Vision support for 4K Blu-rays. I didn't have a stand alone player and thought DV would have been added by now, but there's not even been a slight rumor about it. I can by a pretty sweet stand-alone with just the extra profit I'll make in selling the PS5. Another reason is the fan noise issues I've had. My original PS5 had a Nidec "B" fan that makes a high pitched fluttery "ufo" sound that can be heard plain as day from my sofa 8 feet away during quieter parts in games and movies. Sent it in under warranty, was sent a "factory certified" unit because techs said they couldn't repair it, and this replacement has the same fan model in it. It was a 23 day process from the time I sent my PS5 in to the time I got it back. Another box is on the way from Sony to send back the replacement. I was going to just keep the 3rd one even if it has the crappy fan in it, and just void the warranty to put a different fan in myself. But now with this news... screw it. I'm selling for profit and using the $$$ to buy both a Series X (since I just bought 3 years of Gamepass Ultimate for $4 a month) and ALSO a stand alone 4K player. Will get another PS5 once their fan and coil whine issues are sorted and it's available in black. Perhaps if there's a God of War ltd Ed PS5 and the color scheme is nice.

I'll really miss playing Returnal though, and Ratchet and Clank coming up.

I cannot shake the feeling that the Cosmic Red one looks like a rear view of Deadpool bending over... which is cool, I guess.

The Midnight Black one on the other hand is pretty boring for being what essentially should have been included with the console in the first place.

Having the PlayStation 5 Console on White and an accent Gamepad, at this point preferably Cosmic Red, is the way I'd go.

I wouldn't actually go for a Black nor Red Console, as I don't feel a Colourway change at that scale is worth purchasing unless it's a collaboration with a major Game Title; right now, though, there isn't a Red-themed PlayStation 5 Game I'd want a permanent reminder of in the form of a Console, neither is there a Black one.

More to look forward to in the upcoming years and their 25+ new in-house Games.

I just bought the cosmic red for my nvidia shield (a while back, I saw a new update that gives compatibility to xbox series s/x and playstation 5 controllers). it was kinda expensive though, $91 or so with tax and shipping.
