Transfer hard drive from one softmodded OG xbox to another?

I have a 500gb IDE hard drive in my current softmodded original xbox (Halo edition) but was wanting to put that in a different one I recently picked up and return my first one (the halo edition) back to stock. Is it possible to put it into the newest system without losing any saves/games or will i have to format it and essentially start from scratch on the newest system? Thanks!

You'd need to have the hdd keys from both xboxes and a ide usb adapter and use something like fatxplorer to relock the drive to that consoles hdd key. If you are planing to chip it or tsop mod i would just change the console hdd key to all 1's on both xboxes, it can still play online through insignia this way and you can swap in drives more easily in the future.
