You should get a folder that is the title id of the cart and in that RomFS and ExFS

where do i get this 'ctrtool'? do you have a link? and i dont understand the code or how to use it.

You have to extract it from the .CXI file, both.

Using ctrtool with the following:

Code:
ctrtool -p --exefs=exefs.bin --romfs=romfs.bin abcd.cxi

clicking either of those .exe files only open it up for a second before going away. and trying the other method from your other link, i cant enter anything in the hanshelper program, i tried installing the .net4.0 thing they said they need to run it but that refuses to install so that doesnt work for me either
ctrtool isn't an application you can open with, open cmd with administrator permission and then navigate ctrtool in your pc, for example if it's on desktop just type "cd Desktop" then use the command provided above, the .cxi file must be placed in the same directory

my 3ds setup?

and is that process really what im looking for? it doesnt look like its what i wanted. i need to create a dump of my game so i can go into its files and stuff. i dont know anything about cia files and i dont have a .3ds file to work with.
yea you didnt say everything that you wanted to to do or what you have.

You can use Hourglass9//Decrypt9WIP to dump the cart to a .3ds file
then work with it from there.

But what everyone else is saying is you have to learn a small amount of DOS or comman line to use the program they said.

To use CTRTool, you can put the executable with the CXI, press Ctrl + Shift + right click on the folder that CTRTool and the CXI are in and click "Open command window here". After that, type the code above.
