understanding taoism

i know its based upon the teachings of lao tze, and its about meditations and think silent. and also that tao cant be described. like tao is everywhere. and theres also some deities(spelling?). can any1 plx explain this better then wikipedia? ill be happy if someone does

And I think there are supposed to be deities in Taoism, my family worships them.

usually online sources can be confusing when it comes to this i.e. religion/beliefs.

i know i few things about lao tze. Apparently he is still alive, somehow, and legend has it that he was born with a beard i.e. making him wise. I also seem to remember that Taoism is related to Daoism, and that Buddhism has something to do with it. All of those religions came after each other, pretty much like Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
