Hacking Updated sysnand to 10.3 - was I dumb?

whatever dude. I do believe there will be native 10.3 support i can also read there statement which clearly says that there will be. There also could be an updated downgrade option for there launcher but dont really see the point anymore since the only reason to go back to 4.5 was for mset. You and a lot of people forget that downgrading is dangerous business which some people just doesnt want to deal with.

Im just gonna state that ARM11K service exposure is not kernel access. In fact ARM11 kernel access is not even ARM9 kernel access. So, memchunkhax2 won't get us any closer to kernel access to ARM9 kernel code execution on 10.3. Downgrade is a good use for it.

I'm not saying there would be no kernel access on 10.3, because there are paths to it. Just that the justification of native 10.3 support with memchunkhax2 makes no sense. At all.

I would not wait till after your trip to downgrade, we don't know when Nintendo will push a 10.4+ update (can be anytime soon).
So if you fail to downgrade, you can still recover to 10.3 (if it's a softbrick).

But i would consider paying the extra to get your system hardmodded.

OK, so I found the 9.2.0-20U_n3DS FULL pack and the sysUpdater.
Now, I'm essentially coming from a stock 10.3 US N3dsXL.
Here are the tools I have:
red gateway card
USB dongle to write savegames to a cartridge
Physcial copy of Ocarina of Time.

I believe for this I need to do the following:
Install HBL using Ironhax?
Use HBL to install Menuhax
follow the steps in the video posted earlier
pray

Also, do I need to format my microSD card or can I just copy over the necessary downgrade files? I'd rather not lose all my installed CIAs and associated savegames if I don't have to.

i said nothing about memchunkhax2 making gateway work on 10.3 just that we already have kernal access on 10.3 so it probably wont be hard for gateway to port there software since the homebrew community already did half the work

I'm so nervous to try anything. I barely figured out how to get the Gateway card to work, I don't think I can do the Homebrew thing and downgrade. I'm going on a business trip Tuesday and was wanting to take my 3DS on the flight. Do you guys think GW will really support 10.3 soon, or is that a misinterpretation?

Don't format anything just copy the needed files following a suitable tutorial ( eg https://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-downgrading-your-3ds.407888/ , they don't mention that internet needs to be turned on when doing the downgrade, which seemed to be the only problem I had with that guide).

After you have downgraded, copy your sysnand backup to the root of the SD card (make sure it is called NAND.BIN) and reflash it using the gateway menu downgrade icon (hold UP + A when selecting the icon). Then your system is exactly restored to how it was before you upgraded to 10.3.

To the OP, Recovery to 10.4.0-29U may create problems for sysUpdater.
So wait till you know that it's ok before doing the DG.

Oh man! I just got to the point of running sysUpdater.
Two questions:
1) Where do I find out that downgrading is still safe?
2) Why does Nintendo offering 10.4 affect my ability to downgrade 10.3 to 9.2?

You missed the point. memchunkhax2 is not kernel access. Aguably not even arm11k full and free access.
