So I was casually scrolling through ebay listings as i offten do at work when it is slow. This time I was looking for a cheap xbox to tinker with, well i found a almost normal looking og xbox.. except the picture of the bottom of the console... so of course i bought it. $40 usd best offer was to good to pass up. It has a Prototype sticker and another that says "QT cert build configuration A" with a 4 digit serial and date. Any one know anything about these? google is turning up ziltch and it doesn't seem to be a dev unit since most of those arent the standard black shell that i am aware of. I will post better pictures when it gets here, hopefully it works.

Looks like an Xbox that was used for quality testing in the factory.

possibly, should be here by Tuesday according to usps tracking. i will know more then.
I'll probably have to open it because clock capacitors, but gonna try to not destroy the sticker to get to the screws hopefully i can manage to keep them intact.
recently found this, it might be a xbox live beta proto console, very similar if not.

Nice. It has a debug dashboard, this was used to debug games made using the official Xbox XDK and also was used by the homebrew community.

Might be worth imaging the drive/dumping the NAND if you can and taking pics of the mobo

The name ‘QT Cert build’ label and manufacturing date makes me think it might be a near/final revision of the 1.1 revision just prior to FCC approval.

There’s a chance that there’s data on there which has been deleted but not overwritten.

Of course it could just effectively be a ‘retail’ unit just used for EM testing and play testing retail games.

You hit the nail on the head, this thing is bone stock 4817 dash and kernel abd a 1.1 rev board, might image the drive if i can figure that all out just to be sure. Has a lot of save games not much else, it's still need and i have a borked 1.0 motherboard board so i will probably add extra ram and turn it into a psuedo dev kit, gonna probably soft mod and then tsop flash it. For now i am just cleanng it up. It was actually one of the cleanest xboxes i have ever been in so basically just gonna refresh the thermal paste roemove the clock cap and close her back up for now.

The manufacturing date says 07/2002, XboxDevWiki states that its a 1.0 motherboard when in theory its a 1.1. Could it be that its an early revision somewhat?

could be, i just finished softmodding it and am backing up everything tomorrow after work. i will take better pictures of the motherboard especially the tsop points, i noticed one has a smd capacitor or resistor where you normally would have to bridge the point on the board. none the less it doesn't have a daughter board for the controller ports so probably a v1.1 test build for getting fcc approval.

MCPX X3 chipset - some sort of retail prototype. from the looks it is 1.1 motherboard

EDIT

in fact, judging by sticker and info gathered here, xboxdevwiki.net/Xboxen_Info it seems to be 1:1 the "1.1"

Yeah tsop points are soldered from factory, so this can be turned into a dev unit easily or vise versa. Wonder if it might have been at one point running a dev bios before who ever had it last? Maybe they flashed it to retail with a internal disc for what ever reason (considering the stickers and them listing the bios on the board probably not but interesting they are populated anyway). Took some close up pictures to show the points.

Bios flashes fine without any soldering on my part, i got cerbios flashed to it and a 500 gb sata ssd with a ide adapter i had laying around and a 80 pin cable, does udma 5 but not udma 6. That could on me, the way i formated the drive ( didn't know i should have used the cerbios option in fatxplorer). i am waiting for a usb to ide adapter to make a image of the original drive and see if i can find anything on there with fatxplorer.
also about the 128mb ram mod, should be just a drop in if i am reading right and easily reversable if necessary? I have fairly compentent soldering skills. probably gonna run a tsop dual bios set up with a switch or get a cheap mod chip to boot into xbmc or dev dash with expanded memory. A non 128mb bios should still boot with the extra ram in place?

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
