Gaming What do you think of the Pokemon remakes?

What don't you like about the remakes?

  • They didn't nail the overall aesthetics.

  • The remake lost the charm of the originals.

  • The remade music wasn't done well.

  • Graphics could be better.

  • The artstyle is horrible.

  • Way too easy.

  • Something else (comment if you wish)

  • I'm one of the rare cases that didn't find anything I don't like in them.

Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that is, and no, I'm not using that abbreviation... ;o;

If I'm not mistaken it isn't out yet, but I'm sure many of you are already emulating it. So how is it? What do you think?

Is it as lifeless as Let's Go and lacking charm like Sword and Shield? The BW series is my favourite and has the most personality, recent games have been very disappointing. So since these are Diamond and Pearl remakes, how does it fare? Do the good things about those games outshine whatever the remaking possibly has undertoned? (I made that version of the word up, but I think it should be a thing lol)

Basically my main skepticism is the style of the graphics, it seems really bland and boring, lacking any life. Music is probably another concern given whatever has been going on with MIDI files. And finally EXP Share, I heard it's mandatory here too. I'm not one to not turn on EXP Share (I'd like to earn it though), but it seems that's the reason people give to how easy the other Pokemon Switch games were. I personally highly doubt that, it must be the stats of the enemies and whatnot, but yeah, is it shit easy like SW/SH? "I went through most of the game one hit ko-ing all the Pokemon, but when I came closer to the end of the game....... It took two hits." -Funny guy

TL;DR Wth is your experience with the games? Biased or unbiased, do you like them? But even if you do, do some of the defining traits of good Pokemon games not being there really disappoint you? Amongst your enjoyment? Let us know in the comments below! (said the YouTuber who totally is interested in your opinion... But no really though, I'm curious, what do you think?)

Lazy remakes instead of remaking the defenited edition of DP aka Platinum they went with the mess that is OG DP

Funny how the only remake they got right was HGSS yes ti was a remake of gold and silver but they did not forget platinum and what it did for the series.

Alright, so I am very biased towards this game. The original Pokémon Diamond is my first DS game, and I completed it multiple times in my youth. I am currently in Veilstone City, so not too far. Yes, the exp share is mandatory as far as I can tell. The game isn't very hard for the most part (but idk if that is the same in the original?). That said, I am currently getting demolished by the gym leader's Lucario.

For the most part the game is pretty much what it says on the box, a remastered Pokémon Diamond/Pearl. Yes they should've included the Platinum features, really stupid that they didn't imo. The graphics are fine in my opinion. I don't really like the chibi look, but for the most part it doesn't really bug me. It is only in cutscenes that you really notice that the characters are chibis, in the normal gameplay you don't really notice because the camera is looking down from above.

The combat is pretty meh, but maybe it was that way in the original too. Either you one shot your opponent, or they one shot you. At least, this is how it has been for me so far. I haven't really played the previous Pokémon's, but I think this has always been the case for the most part.

The music seems fine. I don't have a problem with it, but I'm not one to really ever complain about the music.

I am kinda pissed that the removed pretty much all the touch support from the game. Stuff like baking poffins and selecting moves can't be done using touch input. You can still clean your badges using the touchscreen, so I guess there's that. They also removed the casino because nowadays that makes a game 18+ apparently (except FIFA cuz the system is rigged...)

Honestly the only thing which was mandatory for me was the removal of the HM system. You used to have a "HM-slave" in your party just to travel around the map, this is no longer needed.

Imo the game is a bare-minimum upgrade over the original. It is better (mostly), but it could've been much better. I hope they add more features over time, seeing how "live service" is all the hype. I hope they make a Platinum update, but seeing as they didn't do that from the start it's probably never going to happen. It has been a long time since I played BW so I can't compare it to those, but my guess would be that BW is the better game.

I am not really good at writing stuff like this, so if you've got any other questions feel free to ask.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
