I don't think many people use them for anything other than games. For me, it's more effective to write something on my hand than to write it on my DS and then have to open it, etc. when I'm at the store.
Games only. I only use homebrew once in a while when I need to have a mobile messenger. Never bothered with music or videos, I have an MP3 player for that.
I use it for paperweight. Usually the wind blows and my paper gets caught in the wind. Ever since i got my flashcart, i put it on top of the paper, and prblem solved.
Games mostly, I have converted some video and have used it as a calculator and for a shopping list a few times but mostly games. As a shopping list an calculator and shopping list it works pretty well but hard to use while walking through the store or whatever so yea.
@reaper: it is pretty good for a shopping list, plus you can add up your purchase all at the same time, making it a good 2 in one app, plus its legible and easy to change things with out having to balance a small pad, and having to carry a pen which can leak or a pencil which you risk breaking the tip and having to hunt down a pencil sharpener unless you use a mechanical pencil which you can run out of lead as well, so you have to make sure you have it loaded. I really do not wish to carry a pen in my pocket even with out the risk of it leaking (so unless I have GF or another female friend with me who will carry a pen or just anyone that would) Where as with the DS all you have to do is make sure its charged, and even with it on for 16 hours it usually still has a charge its all good. As I usually bring my DS with me everywhere I go I have no need to carry a pad or piece of paper cluttering up my pockets even more.
I use the DS to read my Ebooks when reading popular books that I don't want to buy and are out at the library. Also, I use it for audiobooks and music, but mostly games.

I'll give it shot. I threw out my back last week and all I wanna do is lay on the couch and play some games and try to get my back to ctfo.
Getting up and down to try to make this thing work is the opposite of what I wanted to be doing lol
@SylverReZ, I have a couple of unrelated questions: 1) arent the things on your profile banner the java mascot? 2) doesnt it happen to you there is not too much noise going on but it still feels like sensory overload?
