This site started as an illegal GBA rom host site that had to move servers a lot. It had the latest 10 or 20 so roms hosted at any given time. So GBATEMP was born.
Not surprising as they aren't too crazy about anti-piracy as long as there isn't a direct link or key to it. Kind of weird to think about though.

Back in the olden days the site moved around a lot because of <cough> 'reasons', so each site they were hosted at was usually only temporary
PS Also I still have my Gameboy Advance... I'm aware that this is irrelevant. It is has a Casper the friendly Ghost game in it

What happened to KiVan in the end? Did he ever face criminal charges for the use of fake ID and distributing warez? I did some brief searching online and have no reason to believe legal action was taken against him. Has illegal activity made it harder for him to find a job despite (I'm assuming) his lack of a criminal record? He hasn't logged on since 2014, what's he been doing?

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore. -
