I was more worried about the Mario Kart license being tied to the ISO. So if I were to use my original disc to play online I would have to re-register or it would cause complications with the registration process as I would not be loading from the USB (where I made the change to add wiimmfi in the loader settings)

I'm going to just start using my original CD to play online once the 7 days are up and to use appropriate CTGP-R installation. Funny though - on the Wiimmfi page it stated they did away with the 7 day wait period for consoles that were never banned or had any identity spoofers. Mine never was as far as I know

No dude, there's nothing different in an original disc / downloaded iso.

The Mario Kart licence is tied to your Mii and your Mac Address (I think) so you can use whatever you want to play Mario Kart.

Sorry - I did not know that. I just figured there would have to be something different in using the CD since I changed the private server to wiimmfi.de i the loader settings. Wasn't sure if that also applied to using the actual CD as well

If they use the same save data, then yeah, it should use the same license.

Well that's where I'm getting a bit confused. If I made the change to wiimmfi in the Loader Settings - I take it that's referring to my USB Loader GX where I load the ISO of the game. If I stop using the USB Loader and instead use the actual CD (not running it from USB Loader GX) should there be additional steps involved?

Yes, but if you use CTGP-R then you won't have to do anything else besides installing it.

Sorry to rebump this. The 7 days is up and I'm able to connect to wiimmfi via CTGP-R no problem. However, in the orignal MKWii I'm still unable to connect. It's throwing the code: 23904 which indicates that I need to update the MKWii image. Before I install the automatic patching software shouldn't I already be set up for automatic patching? I set my USB loader and MKWii settings to wiimmfi. Shouldn't that take care of it without have to install the auto patcher on my SD?

I do have an older version of USB Loader Gx. Would that be the cause for not auto updating in the loader?

Assuming USBLGX has the new patcher implemented, then yes, updating to the latest version should fix that.

Will do. I'll report back

Quick question - are people playing the original courses on CTGP-R and on the original MKWii be pooled together?

Currently playing it, took this morning to figure out exactly what i was doing. After about 5 races, I'm beginning to suspect some players might be cheating as I was barely able to hold on to 8th place. I'm by no means an ace player, but i usually get about 3-4 position. Maybe it's me, but something felt a bit off to me :-/

Wiimmfi's anti-cheat system is very good compared to NWFC.

Offline? Or on NWFC?

OK GUYS!
TODAY I WANTED TO PLAY CTGP-R AND IT TOLD ME THAT IT WAS UNABLE TO BOOT DUE A CORRUPTED FILE!
I've downloaded CTGP-R again, and I can't wait to play MKWii Online again.

The last time i played mario kart online, which was on the Wii U, admittedly a while back. But i dont think i've suddenly become THAT bad. I mean I'm not an amazing player, but i can' usually hold my own and get a better position then 8th. I couldn't just be I was grouped in with a number of REALLY good players, resulting in me looking like a complete nuub lol

Still it was loads of fun! :-D

Are you using automatic or manual? My wife and I play automatic offline so when I play online the majority of the people I race tend to use manual and just fly by me. That could be the situation you're running into.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
    +1
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
