WHAT?!
It sounds to me that they figure you will be using it often... that or sleep mode...

WiiPad?

Well that pretty good I guess.

It really will become the Wii Ultimate.

Why is the head of EA answering a Nintendo network question?

The answer:

Nintendo is partnering up with EA for their online functionality. It helps EA has moved to "Origin" as a digital distribution network. It also explains why Ghost Recon ONLINE was a demo for the WiiU.

That's what I'm thinking. It's also why they were the only third party to come out at the Nintendo conference.

Nintendo really didn't break their promise of 'serious online'!

But since they also added 3DS in their 'serious online' scheme, hopefully this gamertag thing will be incorporated into the 3DS as well (via a firmware update perhaps?)

About goddamn time. Now they just need to have voice chat, parties, be able to join a friend's game midsession, a bunch of stuff.

This did help dispell some fears but I'm also wondering what the overall online package is, not just what they're doing in Ghost Recon Online (a game I wouldn't buy anyway).

Yea this needs to be put in via 3DS update. Just like one identity over psp/ps3.
I would be happy, if we get notifications on the 3DS that someone added our FC, so we can add them too.
But I dont see it happening..
yeah I think the FC is hard coded in the 3DS hardware for online.

If they were gonna introduce nametags for the 3DS, trust me they wouldn't even have bothered implanting FC on 3DS.

Yes, its hard coded. But the notification system is certainly possible and it would make more sense.
I mean come on, you friggin add everyone manually -.-
Even if someone has you added, you cant do shit unless you add them manually.

I hope we dont have to add the gamertags like that for the WiiU

The article doesn't really talk about EA, it was Ubisoft at the Nintendo Q&A event where Ubisoft is making 5 games for the Wii U.
When they talked about Ghost Recon Online, they said something along the lines of account creation. So you create some sort of account where you could track stats and friends and stuff.
And yes EA did make an appearance in the conference but they didn't mention anything about online i dont thinks.

Nintendo has not said anything about the online and friend codes but Ubisoft with Ghost Recon Online plans to use some account creation.

Quick quote on the live blog from last night about someone asking the friend code stuff if its system wide.
QUOTE10:09
StephenTotilo: JC Fletcher of Joystiq wants to know about GHost Recon's friends lists and such, wants to know if that is system-wide
10:10
StephenTotilo: Ubi dude: We want those features for our game; Nintendo's call if it's console-wide

So yeh.

@RedColoredStars, Companies do the exact same thing with other companies as well, so it's not just Microsoft. There are 3rd-parties like 'data brokers'.

I'm 52 years old and one of my jobs in life was marketing research. Im well aware. I've been online for around 30 years. Everyone and their grandmother already has my personal information. One more having my email address isn't ruining my life or even effecting me in any way whatsoever.
