So quick question for anybody with a PS3 and PS4. Can the Dualshock 4 controller work with the PS3 or is it PS4 only? And if not is there any mod or trick that we can do to make it work for the PS3 because I really want to use one on my PS3. Thanks!

By the way I have a CFW PS3 if that helps.

keep in mind it only works with a usb cable plugged in too, not wireless over bluetooth

Now do we have anything from Sony that they might update or release a patch that will allow the DS4 to work on the PS3 or is this compatibility a hardware issue not software issue?

only statement Sony has ever made about the DS4 with any other Sony product has been the Vita TV and that's a maybe. Personally I don't think Sony would waste the time adding PS3 support to the DS4 via bluetooth, but it works with a usb cable so you ain't fully out of options

Alright then maybe if Sony doesn't do it some hacker or modder will make a patch/mod for it. Anyways thanks guys for the responses you've answered all the questions I have.

Cheers!

While this may not be the ideal thing for you, I see this usb dongle has had an update recently which includes dual shock 4 support. Will basically allow you to use a Dual Shock 4 on a pc, ps3 and xbox 360 but a few bits like rumble aren't supported yet but its something

Although that does look quite nice I don't have $60 laying around much less for the controller itself, but if Sony never allows the DS4 to work on PS3 that might be the way to go.

Thanks!
