Would Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. approve of what his legacy has produced?

Happy MLK Day, everybody!

Just wondering how the rest of you feel about the state of race relations in the United States, and wanted your insight on whether or not what is going on today aligns with what Dr. King envisioned for the future of America.

I would just like to see his reaction to his penis statue.

Robert E. Lee's holiday was replaced by a degenerate communist, who among other things such as hiring prostitutes while trying to portray himself as a wholesome figure, as shown by released documents.

He most likely did not even write his own speeches. Stanley Levinson probably did though.
His real name is Michael King. He even stole/used the name of a German priest from the 1500's.

*sigh*

Okay, I'll bite.

This is a trick question, isn't it?

I'm sure some aspects are better than they were (black people aren't forced secondary seats on the bus), but the overall idea of equality is still an utopia. Nowadays it's all inherent racism, cops shooting people with a dark skin and rightwing nutjobs soiling the internet with fan fiction.

MLK would most likely be against the imaginary world Conservatives live in and be in favor of the civil rights Conservatives are so against

Disagree. Disagree about where MLKjr would fall on modern hot-topics, and disagree about whether certain causes-of-the-moment fall under the umbrella of 'civil rights.' But even an on-topic post in this thread is only speculation. So, you could be correct.

He might be just another old guy out of touch with the youth that did something good a long time ago. We can't say, just because someone did something good once doesn't mean you should always agree with them & that they will always do good.

if you don't like other people's customs don't pay attention to them
"But slavery and racism are MuH HeRiTagE!" Goddamn bottom-feeding waste of oxygen.

Are we forgetting what ultimately got King assassinated? It was his efforts to establish a Working Families Party, inspired by socialist ideals. The powers that be could not abide by poor people of all races uniting under one banner, and the Republican party remains a primary enforcer of those divisions; thus socialism continues to equate to a four-letter word for them.

You were never a slave and either was anyone you've ever known, Not anyone you've ever met has ever been a slave owner. Also you're the hateful racist person with a victim mentality, you're just too stupid to see that. I think you'll end up a sad lonely old fat twat, because I've read a few of your posts and haven't seen anything at all that gives a glimmer of hope that you might be a decent person. I pity you and I think I'll add you to my ignore list as all your posts are nothing but whinging - you're a negative effect and I bet when people see you they walk away from you because they can't be arsed with your pish. Don't bother replying either - you've just been cancelled.

In Alabama and Mississippi they celebrate Robert E. Lee day instead. Pretty much sums up how far we've come, and how far we still have yet to go.
Leftists celebrate an ideology that killed over 80 million people in less than one century on May 1. Almost all of those people were slaves to their government. You might want to sit this one out.

Even if that were true, it doesn't somehow make slavery acceptable or moral, as you're implying here. The truth of the matter, however, is that we aren't at all beyond the practice, as Nestle, Mars, Hershey and others have very recently been caught utilizing child slave labor to gather their cocoa. Then of course you have people like Elon Musk who gained their wealth from apartheid emerald mines.

An absolute fucking honor in this case, I assure you.

Compared to hundreds of millions dead to the artificial scarcity and perpetual war machine created by capitalism. I'm not a communist, however, so it's entirely a moot point. You'll have to try for a different whataboutism.

Robert E. Lee = whataboutism
Robert E. Lee day is observed in place of, and on the same day as MLK day. Two states would rather celebrate the life of a traitorous slaver than the life of a man who fought for racial equality and class consciousness. So no, it's not whataboutism, it's very much relevant to the topic at hand. We've made a lot of progress, but we still aren't all that close to realizing MLK's dream. Electing Obama broke a lot of racists' tiny brains, but it did not magically cure our divisions.
