Yo-kai Watch World announced for mobile, out now in Japan

Level-5 Games is leveling its sights on the mobile market once more, specifically, the augmented reality type of mobile game. Announced through a company livestream was a new Yo-kai Watch game, which will require players to walk around places to find creatures and battle them so that you can befriend them and take them with you. There will be bosses, the ability to use your Yo-kai to find new items or friends. You can see a full version of the translated Japanese press release below. It's now currently available in Japan, though there's been no mention of a worldwide release at this time. However, despite the series failure to become as much of a phenomenon in the west as it is in Japan, with the popularity of Pokemon Go, it could be quite possible that we see an English release. GungHo Online Entertainment will be assisting with the game and its future development.

You are the Protagonist on an Adventure Set All over Japan

The many unique yo-kai of the Yo-kai Watch series like Jibanyan and Komasan appear in the real world. Search for and battle against the yo-kai that appear all over Japan. Complete your Yo-kai Encyclopedia by moving yourself or by getting other players to move.

First, “Search” for Yo-kai on the Map

In order to find nearby yo-kai, “Search” the location you’re at on the map. There are various yo-kai to be discovered depending on the location. Don’t forget to Search whenever you visit a new place.

Find Yo-kai with Your Smartphone Screen

Tap the icon of the yo-kai you discover through Search. By doing this, you will be able to see that yo-kai through your smartphone screen. Find yo-kai and pursue them so they don’t escape.

Battle Yo-kai with Simple Controls

When you Search for yo-kai, a battle will begin. Since battles are semi-automatic, they’re very simple. Use special moves when you have an opening or are in a pinch. By winning battles against a yo-kai, you may be able to befriend them. By training the yo-kai you befriend, you can battle even stronger yo-kai.

Possess Nearby Players

Your yo-kai can “Possess” nearby players. A possessor yo-kai can travel with the player it possesses to new areas. They might bring back a yo-kai from somewhere you couldn’t go on your own, or sometimes they even bring souvenirs. (Rest assured that your exact position will not be shown to nearby players.)

Plant “Yo-kai Trees” at Various Places

You can plant trees at your current location, as well as at places a possessor yo-kai visits. Yo-kai gather around trees, creating the opportunity for new encounters. Make proper use of Yo-kai Trees to increase the number of places you can befriend new yo-kai.

Plenty of Ways to Play

Yo-kai Watch World is full of other ways to play. From “Advent Bosses” you can enjoy anywhere, to “Departed Maps” where you can look back on your previous travels and more. How you play is up to you.

Inb4 people try to drag this down as a "pokemon GO ripoff" even tho it looks like its gonna be handled better.
They didn't really show any gameplay, so that's a big assumption. I've backed Temtem and Monster Crown, so I'm happy to see Pokemon-likes, but the problem with Yokai Watch for me has always been the terrible-looking creature designs.

They was based on Japanese horror monsters so that could explain why.

They just killed the Yo-kai Watch Wibble Wobble app a few weeks ago while the Japanese version is still supported. I don't have much hope for this or even Yo-kai Watch 3 ever coming West for 3DS. They might give it another shot with Yo-kai Watch 4 on Switch, but typically, anything I love isn't long for this world.

I just downloaded Yo kai watch world and played for abit. Looks really good and lots of features . Defiantly better than pokemon go. I would still be playing if I knew how to read Japanese. I hope they make it english

They did show quite a bit of gameplay during the press presentation stream on youtube tho, they even got Corocoro channel and even some popular jp youtubers to post gameplay videos of the game.

As for your second point, that's purely a matter of opinion, I personally find the yokai designs to be absolutely adorable.

There was a game very much.like this early- mid in the DSi' life time. It was a DL only g game. It had both a dark and a light version yellow graphics for the light and blue for the dark, but didn't.take off too well. That could be due to the many delays in release though.anyone remember it?

some of the best selling games on the switch are wii u ports (that are priced way too high

$60 for a game that's a decade old might be unheard of on PC but actually is not uncommon on consoles

especially Nintendo because they only ever lower the price of games when they do a greatest hits/platinum hits/players choice re-release
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@The Real Jdbye, and the HD collections released for 7th gen consoles too
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but they don't seem to have done any of those for the switch yet and maybe never will

@The Real Jdbye, tbh the HD collections are more justified since they include more than just 1 game per copy

@SylverReZ I read that non-binary people identify as a blend of male and female. The point is i think i'm a blend of those and thus non binary
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Non-binary people are those who don't identify themselves exclusively as male or female.
