I don't mind if you show me a forced ad in the beginning of the video that's fine, but this interrupting the video MULTIPLE TIMES in a single video to show ads is BULLSHIT. I keep trying ad blocks but eventually they disable them.
For me μBlock works fine, recently no so much for shorts but allows them to be skipped.

Honestly. Vanilla YouTube at this point is a corporate machine. Every popular creator MUST have clickbait thumbnails, sponsors, ads, no cursing, no violence, can't say "suicide", can't say "kill", can't do this, can't do that, do all this right and get money. Over and over and over again. It's a perpetual checklist of approval. Step out of line, all money goes out the window.
I wouldn't mind clickbait thumbnails so much if the picture was actually included in the video, which, for some creators, seems to never happen. Or when a title promises to reveal the shocking truth about something, and you watch the whole thing and still don't have a clue what was that shocking truth at the end. That's dishonest and disrespectful to the viewers.

That's pretty much the purest form of clickbait. And it's super common nowadays which is really really annoying. I use a clickbait blocker and block any YouTubers that consistently use clickbait for more views.

I know a lot of people are saying 'just get an adblock lol' but now that that's established, yes, it drives me mad too.

For the principle of it, if nothing else. They're clearly just trying to annoy the absolute fuck out of everybody they can until you get so sick of the ads that you just pay for premium, which is a really dirty and pathetic tactic to take. If you have to resort to that, I don't know, maybe your product isn't good enough?

I do though, get them on my phone  watching YT.
If you have an android phone try ReVanced, there are pre-patched apks there on the link, just dl and install with your fav apk installer. Tho you'd have to install MicroG (also on the Mega link) in order to sign in to your YT account.
revanced (I think you need to be rooted)
There are rootless options.

I use ABP on my PC, and I only saw the "turn off adblockers" nags for a few days and since then it's been ad and nag free (other than an occasional < 1 sec glitch when loading a new video).

Problem is, I don't watch most videos on my PC, I watch on my Samsung smart TV, where the ads have gone from mild annoyance to huge pain in the ass.

Haven't seen an ad on Youtube since 2009. And I'm up there every day. I am running both U block Origin and the Dev build. Not sure why I have both or if it matters, but I wouldn't watch anything on YT if I had to watch any ads. I cut the cable in 2007 and never see ads of any kind.

I've been using uBlock since it's inception and never seen a youtube ad while using it. The only time I see a youtube ad is on mobile, the switch, and TV but then I installed some adblocking on their too (except for the Switch).

I need to update my revanced app.
I usually go to Github and grab the newest APK. Do you do differently?

I do love how we can customize YT in almost every aspect, especially no Shorts (or Recommendations that which you turn off via your Google account).

Makes YT a lot cleaner to browse. :)

@Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.

At least Linux doesn't contain spyware than what Windows has.

    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

  • impeeza @ impeeza:
@Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.
