Here I am in work, & during my lunch break decided to visit a few of my favorite forum(s) & what do I find

[Luckily GBATemp is still 'free from censorship'... but for how long ??]

Now last year I could visit them easily with no problems - but now......I can't !!!!!

However there are some sites that I would've though would be banned (can't post them here 'cos one's a ROM/ISO site and the other is an art/animation site that can contain some 'adult' material) yet I can view them with no censorship at all

Does this mean that the IT department is into such things ??
Perhaps they themselves download pirate ISO ??

All I can say is that my lunchtime browsing has now been greatly diminished, so

you mean.. you can't use the resources they pay for to view your favorite sites during lunch? D:

I get that at my work also. I can't even view any videogaming sites at all. Thats why I always have my iPad with me. People can say what they want about it but it does what I need it to do. Any way yeah that sucks.

dont worry, the IT guys would be able to easily put their pcs on a whitelist.
the just dont know about these sites yet.

At my school, the IT dept. do pretty much nothing...the server's completely autonomous...
All they do is fix the ports occasionally ┐('~`;)┌
lern2tunnel :yay:
Is that a PC term for 'bypassing restrictions' ??? - never heard of it before

But anyway, I'm already 'bypassing' some of the restrictions the IT dept has in place anyway, so asking them to allow me access to certain sites, which apparently I should not be able to get to anyway - might bring up a few questions

Before Xmas - we were still using IE6 (we're now on IE8) & we couldn't even install Firefox,Opera or Chrome (due to no 'Administrator access'). However by using 'portable app' version of these we could at least run them

- but due to a configuration file none of these could actually access the Internet (even IE6 couldn't access the 'bbc.co.uk' website because of the 'blocks' in place) - All of the browsers could only access the 'company own pages' or pages that are related to them

Luckily through a lot of Googling & luck - I managed to find out the name & 'grab' a copy of the conf file they used in IE6 & found a few ip/port addresses (they used a 'conf' file to read another file which in turn used another file that contained the IP addresses)

- looking through the list I found I could use one of set that when used in Firefox/Chrome as 'manual proxy' settings managed to at least give FF/Chrome/Opera access to the internet (although it seems I go via a German server - the companies I guess - instead of their USA server)

It still doesn't bypass the website restrictions & so I still can't access Filetrip or Supercard forums, even if I change the ip/port addresses to one of the others I found
(also forget to mention that the 'UK National Lottery ' website is also blocked as it is considered a 'Gambling' site - so I can't even check my lottery numbers  )
