Interested if I make a 'create your own save editor' video tutorial?

Do you guys think there would be interest?

I would put it on youtube, the code would be for Windows, Visual Studio, C#.

I would take a vita/3ds save (or any game really), find an offset like 'money', then we make an exe to load the save, display the value/money/hp, edit it and save the file.

There would be a sample save editor project for Visual Studio on my github to make things really easy.

People would be interested? Thanks :)

Id like u to do it. but it sounds pretty tedious, cause u need to save few times with different (or same) amount of money, then plug the memory into computer and even just it takes lots of time, doesnt it?

@natanelho but thats just while you are making it. for example: if you want a save editor for some weird japanese game but ooooh it doesnt exist. this is why this would be useful.

Please don't give these kids the ability to cheat on their own. there are some of us that know how to do it but choose not to because we don't want online gaming ruined. make them work for it.

if you show us how to read an offset + calculate a checksum, It would be interesting :)

G
I agree I'd be interested if it included the checksum portion. I think that will be the biggest hurdle for most

I can't really cover checksums since that is a different thing... there is no single 'checksum'.
The 'sum' can be easy, or it can be hard.
For some games there isn't just a checksum, but the whole save is actually encrypted lol. (I'm angrily looking at you Phantasy Star Online...)

Anyway, this video would be about how to do things. If you follow the steps and code it will work for any game.

Plus, I have never really figured out any checksums on my own, or honestly even needed to, luckily all the game saves I have wanted to edit have not had any checksum.

So, if the checksum is the thing you are worried about it, you don't need this guide because it means you already know how to find offsets in the save file, and you already know how to make a basic save editor... you understand? :)

@proflayton123 - this guide will involve ZERO command line stuff, so the 'compiling' will be so easy :D it's not like compiling 3ds homebrew

@natanelho - it's not tedious, it's easy enough! and only people who want to do this would do it, so it won't really be boring. it might take a few hours, even much more than that, to fully document the save, but if a person really wants to make a save editor they will do it. the video will just be about changing a few values, but of course it's basically the same technique for each value in the save.

also, what 3ds or vita game should i use?

something that doesn't have much love, a small game i'm thinking.
something with lots of numbers that are important. (not for example a mario game, since there isn't much data, no exp, no items, no levels, etc...)

if no good recommendations for 3ds/vita, i might just pick some gba or ds game (recommendations please!), since the idea is the same and it will be easy to work with since i can just run it in an emulator. but i'm happy to do vita or 3ds too.

The Binding of Isaac or even something like Minecraft would be cool. You could alter inventory items

That Dell data breach is worse than people probably realize....
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
When I worked for Dell we had access to data about military contracts and addresses for high ranking people.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I personally handled a call from the second highest person at Raytheon. That call bothered me a lot... The guy was nice and smart what bothered me was the way management basically just blew him off instead of going the extra mile to help him.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
In the end that call ended up costing Dell millions in lost contracts with Raytheon, and really the issue could have been solved for like 450 bucks lol

sometimes I wonder why anyone would ever buy mega man x legacy collection 2
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
I always thought that capcom shuffled the games in these collection, but apparently they are all in chronological order, which makes legacy collection 2 worthless
