My Game Project for Nintendo 3DS - Trying a unsupported Feature

Hey Guys,

I'm still working on my Game for Nintendo 3DS.
I tried to add a yet unsupported feature to my game... "Terrains".
Unfortunately Terrains aren't supported yet on Unity for Nintendo 3DS.
That's why the Textures are not loading correctly.
I really hope they'll improve the support in one of the next updates.

Terrains are much better to create big environments and Maps because as you see, the FPS are stay at 60fps.
When I try to import the Terrain as 3D Model (via Maya, 3DSMax Studio or Blender), the FPS would drop drastically because of the high count of polys.

UPDATE 18-10-2017
Unity for N3DS doesn't support AlphaCutout or VertexLit on TwoSided Normals.
I was able to simulate both effects with wonderful 60fps.

It won't be a homebrew^^' That'S why I only can share video material (no demo and stuff) here.
I'm working on a 3D RPG Game right now. I've a lot of Scripts done already. I just showcase the stuff I'm testing at the moment (no real gameplay yet because... this will be a secret for now ;3 )

I'm not really familiar with Unity, but have you tried to subdivide the terrain mesh into multiple smaller ones? The culling might work better this way

@catlover007 unfortunately it doesn't work^^
Terrains itself are not fully supported by Unity for N3DS yet.
I guess there's a problem with the compression of the textures or unity is unable to load the textures on top of the terrain on the 3DS Hardware for some reason.

What's the dimensions of your terrain texture? In the past, I've had issues with textures less than 16 x 16 in size when previewing on real hardware (I get the exact same results at you do), but if your texture isn't smaller than that, then yeah it's probably a separate bug waiting to be fixed in the next hotfix.

Nice work! :D
P.S. at least cloth works now as well lol.

@xXDungeon_CrawlerXx, Alright, this is mega weird... it's working for me!

I basically used a very simple custom shader like you though... and my texture properties are all on the default settings.

Have you tried deleting the Library folder in your projects to completely refresh everything? Cuz Unity for 3DS 1.2.X sometimes has this stupid bug where it doesn't always compile the shaders correct unless you completely refresh the project, and any amount of things could go wrong...

@Voxel , could you send me a sample project to check the differences?
Have you tried to draw more than one texture to the terrain? Which Shader did you used?

@xXDungeon_CrawlerXx Tried tiled textures too; it's also working (I set it to 5x5).
I'll build a sample project and PM you it and the shader code later. :)
