Is it just me, or does it feel like the Wii U's homebrew scene was lackluster?

Come on, the Wii's homebrew scene was epic, why wasn't the Wii U's homebrew scene close to being that good? I mean, essentially the only emulators released were just RetroArch and PPSSPP and barely anything else. It's not like it's a curse or something, the PS Vita arguably had a better scene to me than the PSP, and that was a super-large scene. Ditto for the 3DS to the DS (though the DS port of PrBoom and Portal feel better than their 3DS counterparts). The games that got ported to the Wii U homebrew scene are either junk, have been ported to the Switch, or are JezzBall U. And the vWii doesn't help, as there are a ton of awesome apps that won't work on the vWii.

Phones got better and more open, TVs got HDMI and on the flip side the likes of the raspberry pi got released.

The consoles (handheld or TV) with the good homebrew scenes (I am not counting the 3ds in this as a good one, not even close. If you think it beats the DS in breadth, depth and anything other than being slightly faster for some things you clearly have not looked at the DS) were at a time when they represented the best portable or TV plugging and controller using (do you remember PC controllers prior to the 360? and no the things nerds used to have their PS1 pads on a PC don't count) computing action you could easily (and cheaply) program for.

Add to this the Wii U being a flop and offering nothing of great interest and it is no surprise at all that the homebrew scene lacks.

Yeah the thing that makes it nicer to use an original Wii is the fact that the WIi U has slow loading times between the Wii U's home menu and other hubs such as the homebrew channel and vWii.

Because I would rather load USB Loader GX and then load a game off there than load a WIi game of VCinject where there are occasional compatability issues.

because the wiiu sucked.also the wii was hacked just as fast as the switch was. once the wii got usb loader and homebrew chan the scene took off like a rocket. by the time the wiiu was cracked open it was too late it was dead.

It all stems from the fact that the console was a complete failure. That means having less people who own the console, in turn having less devs, and less users means less incentive for those few devs to make anything. On top of the fact that it was clunky, slow, and outdated for a console of the time period.

Do new releases of emulators really matter all that much at this point? There's no shortage of options anymore for quickly and accurately running the same games that people have already been playing for the last twenty years.

My only wish was to have the emulators ported to wii u (Without retroarch) Really would make enjoying them a lot better. I still like my wii and using Genesis plus gx is still as good as it was before the wii u showed up. It just made it easier to play my games without needing a tv. (Though I admit just having a portable android device with better hardware performance would be nice replacement)
