Time for a small rant about PCIe GPU power connector placement...

The PCIe power cable for graphics cards: Why... in the ever-loving fuck... Are the power cables placed in the most RETARDED SPOTS IMAGINABLE on current graphics cards? It's the one cable that we just can't ever seem to hide.

No matter the size or formfactor of a PC, the PCIe power plug placement on GPUs is just the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my 21 years as a PC repair technician and PC enthusiast. Its the only cable you can't seem to be discreet with, without buying one of THESE fugly-ass adapters:

...just to put the PCIe power connectors where the fucking belong, on the bottom edge of the GPU near the motherboard. You know... where they're easily hidden, out of sight, easily routed, and where they make sense:

Now look at this engineering marvel; The stupid fucks at Nvidia didn't think the PCIe power connector was in a stupid enough spot, they decided those ugly-ass PCIe cables need to be FRONT AND FUCKING CENTER in your build:

This level of sheer engineering STUPIDITY drives me absolutely bonkers, and makes me want to punch every fucker at AMD and Nvidia in the throat.

Whoa, I've seen one 8/6-pin connector as someone using the Pascal cards, but two 8-pins?

These video cards better be saying something along the lines of:

Gosh dang I was thinking this exact thing earlier today, because the connector on my GPU FACES OUTWARD JUTTING AGAINST THE GLASS PANEL OF THE CASE. You can’t cable manage it. It just is. angereyyy

@Chary Most you could do is to have a case with a rubber grommet that's on the bottom and run the cable through there, and make sure that you have a cable extension handy just in case the cable(s) aren't long enough.

alot of people do not have the room in their cases if they put them on the other side
and just buy third party cards rather than nvidias shitty proprietary connector in the middle of the card? seems simple enough

The "no room in the case" thing is played out, because that's literally right next to the sata connectors. So there's usually already cables going over there, it's a standard cable routing spot that already exists in 99% of all cases made today.

the worst thing is they sometimes place them like you say BUT ONLY ON OEM CARDS, to quote AVGN: WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

I wouldn't say the "no room in the case" thing is played out whatsoever. I have a full size beast, a Cooler Master HAF X, and there's not a chance in hell any GPU I've ever had in it would fit if the power cables were on the bottom side.

oh, i misread that, the oem ones i was talking about had them on the short side, i thought he was refering to that, as it'd be easier to manage and hide

They don't put them there because a lot of motherboards have chipset heatsinks, mounting brackets, or SATA ports that point straight up right behind the x16 lane connector, so the cables just wouldn't fit. The most feasible spot to accommodate the entire market is on top or facing in but at the top of the card, everyone can fit the cables there, ugly or not.

The only time I've run into an issue with port placement was building in the Corsair 250d Cube. Great case. My favorite of all time. However, the GPU power port was causing some issues with the DVD drive bracket. I had to buy flat cables so it wouldn't pinch and ruin the cable.
