Attention all ROM dumpers: Stop naming your ROMs like this.

It fucks up the Scraping process and adds HOURS of manual correcting. So if you dump game ROMs and name them this way for others to download in a ROMpack, you've got a big "fuck you" coming your way from me. :hateit:

Love yas!

EmulationStation puts the games in the right spots, even when they start with "The", so it's literally a non-issue when the ROM is named properly.

I have yet to find a faster scraper than what comes built-in to Retropie. Everything else runs slower than dogshit, and I've got a blazing 1Gigabit connection.

The built in one in EmuStation kinda sucks. It's too much manual effort when you have a large library of games, some of them are detected wrongly, some of them are not detected at all. I used the script hidden away in a console based menu somewhere, think it was in the retropie config (why isn't it more easily accessible), which grabbed most of it automatically, and then used EmuStation for the rest.

I agree having the article at the end is annoying, but it's (unfortunately) an official way to sort things for years, and not only dumped ROMs. Not only an English thing either (it exists in France too)

it feels far away the time when we had ROM renamers with user multi-criteria. (Or at least when I used one)
GBArenamer, OfflineList, NintenRen, Rominator, EvoCRC, 3DSCRC, ROMCenter, GoodTool (& goodMerge), etc.

the only games I download now are switch ones. I run them through switch backup manager to rename them. however, it renames them based on what's in the file, and sometimes the names are in all caps, which I don't like. I rename them manually when that happens. I also go on tinfoil.io to look up dlc content ids, because the name of the dlc is not in the file. that was a nightmare with games like mortal kombat xi and super smash bros. ultimate.

I also hate how II comes before part 1 of something. when that happens, a little trick I learned from aldostools, is to add a space after the game name to make it come before II.

proper way of identifying a rom is by hash, not name...
thera are scrapers that work this way.
you can't screw it up unless it's a hacked rom.

I've don't think I've had this problem, but then again I don't think I've downloaded any games with "the" in front of them. I do recognize the format though, It's the same for looking up books electronically and it's for sorting your games alphabetically. since there's (most likely?) so many games with "The" in front of them, it's prolly better to put the "The" after the title since then you don't have
The Avengers
The Jungle Book
The Legend of Zelda
+how many more
and having to go through looking for the specific game or book since eventually you reach a point where all of the "The"s blend together and you miss what your looking for. I understand where your coming from tho. prolly better to group them up in one "T" category than having to go through multiple letter categories looking for something

I use letters to name my folders with roms in it (mostly Everdrive stuff on my SuperNES, GameBoy etc). Having lots of games starting with "The" in the "T" folder won't make it easier to scroll through them all. I think it's much better balanced like it is now.

I was gonna say that I agree, but then again I don't have a massive ROM collection or w/e so maybe I just don't see how it could be an issue

I personally prefer it this way as it's easier to type "Sim" and jump to "Simpsons, The" then it is to have to type "The Sim" to get to "The Simpsons". When you have hundreds of roms starting with "The" it becomes tiresome quickly.

That said, if you spend hours and hours renaming then this is a problem in chair not in computer situation.
Search directory for all instances of ", The", cut and paste all of the results into a new folder, then open Bulk Rename Utility and go to that folder, use Replace to replace ", The" with nothing, and then prefix "The " on all of the files.

Edit: On Windows you might have to search using exact qualifiers to get the right results for cut/paste- you can do this by searching something like filename:", The"
