A female colleague has called me doll and asked me how I was doing (on Whatsapp)

I am confused.

To add some context female colleague (F27) is reasonably attractive and I (M30), not reasonably attractive but no longer fat. She started here a little while ago and I've helped her out on some stuff. Her calling me 'doll' unsettles me.

Not asking for any advice but figured I'd share this inane anecdote with the internet.

hmm, sounds to me like she:

1) etheir likes you (maybe?)
2) or is toying with you (teasting or playfully) Not in a bad way.
3) or just thinks you're as pretty as one of her barbie dolls that she has? (not sure if she has seen your pic).

she could be just tesing you or fun or wants to be playful with you, or i dunno,
girls are like a pizzle, you can't be sure 100% half the time what they are thinking or planning to do.

hope this help you in some way, im not much of a grils expert myself, so im puzzled at this as much as you are.
GL mate, hope it works out for you with this specfic girl (if she is really into you and isn't just playing around or trolling for fun i mean).

As a general rule "don't dip your pen in company ink" works for me. Too much potential for drama and that is even before the lunacy that HR goes in for this last 5-10 years where sometimes even the most implausible allegations can be seen to end careers.

For some "doll" is a term of endearment, though not one that I have any fondness for and especially not being directed at a man unless I fell into a time portal to 1950s US and wound up in a roadside diner somewhere in the south.

A less effeminate male would have nailed her by now, nailed some of her friends , gave her marks out of ten, told all his male friends and drank 20 beers then moved on to the next one.

Somehow it's okay for women in professional settings to use 'affectionate' terms of 'endearment', even if the man they're directed towards doesn't like it and wants it to stop - but if a man tries to do the same thing to a woman, he can get written up for "harassment".
Something I've heard of far too many times...

Just to clarify that I am not looking to do anything with her beyond friendship. My job pays pretty good money for relatively little seniority. I'm not risking my gravy train.
