I have a REAL confession to make... (Not an April Fools one.)

I, Jayro "Danger" Jones, have never liked the Animal Crossing series.

Shocking, I know... But I find the gameplay to be boring, monotonous, and endless collect-a-thon games where you play house just aren't my kind of game. I've tried giving it a chance with each new game, and I even started with Animal Forest (eng translation) on the N64, but alas... I just can't stand them.

I said what I said. It is what it is.

I don't think the idea is particularly lame, but I think like any idea, if it's overused and is not really expanded on, well, it's not fun.

I do think MC is quite boring vanilla, but because you can expand it and because there's so much user-generated content and it's easy to make your own, it's great for what it is.

Just how DnD can get boring with the vanilla system, so there you have homebrew, which lets you add content and tweak the system how you like. DnD even provides information on how to get started with this, so it's like it's asking you to do that once you're tired of the base game.

Ah Valheim. That's a game I've heard talked about but haven't given it much of a look.

I've always liked the idea of Animal Crossing much more than actually playing it.

It's full of charming characters etc. but I just don't have the creative energy anymore for endless-customization games.

I have played a few AC games before (GameCube a couple times, a bit of Wild World more than a decade ago before I seemingly lost the cartridge, and New Leaf several times), but each and every time I eventually lose interest due to how monotonous it gets. There's enough charm for about a week or so, if maybe a bit longer, but I've never once fully developed my town.

Then there's New Horizons, which effectively fired Resetti - my favourite character. Apparently the devs made him optional in New Leaf due to "he scared children", but at least the player could rectify this massive mistake through Public Works; there's no such option in the Switch game due to autosave being a thing.
Resetti was THE most entertaining character in the series, with his rants always being amusing, and what he makes the player do becoming increasingly insane. He did not deserve losing his job. I hate New Horizons for that alone.

Then there's how NH only allows one island per console, whereas WW and NL kept their towns confined to the cartridge/digital copy. That's just horrendous, and it's due to the shift from save files being stored on cartridge/digital copy to the console, system-wide. Sure, that might make save-file handling easier in some scenarios, but in this case it's a terrible decision. Just unforgivable.
(Same goes for Pokémon, actually, though all five currently-released titles are pretty much garbage)

Lastly, this doesn't affect me much, but from what I've heard only Player 1 has control over island development; P2 and further barely have ANY say in it - and the Switch is a far more 'social' console than the DS and 3DS ever were, since it's mainly a home console. This might have been a tad more understandable in NL, but not in NH.

So yeah, New Horizons is the worst entry in the series, and the series is already quite hit-and-miss for many people. Why'd they even bother with New Horizons? I will likely never comprehend that answer.

I think they just feel like they have to make one version for every system they make, and it apparently prints them unprecedented amounts of money, so I don't see them stopping any time soon... Same with Splatoon, and the same team makes both games. But Splatoon is bad-ass.

If you just want pi for emulation no point when Anbernic releases new shit every two seconds
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
What's really cool about Pi's tho is you can have multiple SD cards with different OS on each SD card and change from say a gaming machine to a full fledged pc if wanted
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus all bios are set up and usually includes at least 128gbs or 64
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah but if your main goal is just to play n64 and GameCube you can save about $50 and have the portability option
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
True, but on 2 monitors at 4k. Its just want you want really, to each they own.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
For that texasroo guy, I'd recommend the Spell and speak as his first system.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They'll be getting in the territory of portable Pcs anyway
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They could use HD out on their TV no real need for a monitor these days tbh the purists will disagree
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'm kind of phasing out on the need for wanting all these consoles cool to have but they just become dust build ups
