Why I Hate Wonder Woman

1) She has no weaknesses, meaning there's practically no drama in any fights that include her. She's going to win since she's on the side of good, and a woman; unlike Superman, there's no handheld mcguffin that's going to weaken her in any way. This used to not be the case, when she was first introduced, since back then if she was tied up (preferably by a man) she would lose her powers and have to rely on her brain instead. When that weakness was removed because social standards were changing for the worse, nothing was put in to replace it. Hence, her fights are inherently boring.

2) She's a princess of the superwoman-only island of Themyscira, and her society tends to have a pretty dismal view of men, seeing them as inherently immoral and inferior to women and not worthy of the same level of respect, despite having very little contact with men as a whole. How are we supposed to connect and like someone, let alone a member of that flawed society's royalty, who originates and symbolises such a revolting culture? Not to mention how combat has a very high focus in Themyscira, instead of more acceptable activities like farming and weaving and the like.

3) She was created by William Marston, a man who viewed matriarchies as inherently superior to patriarchies (especially unusual for the 1940s), and preferred female domination over men, which directly led to Themyscira's female-only population and the initial focus of bondage. Indeed, a part of his worldview was "submission to loving authority", which supposedly only exists under female rule.
The character of Wonder Woman was, as a result, heavily flawed from the outset, and has never recovered from it.

Wonder Woman is a worthless character who just needs to die off and be forgotten. She is, in some ways, worse than Marvel's Captain Marvel, primarily her society and real-world conception.
Let's not forget that, in her most recent film, she flat-out raped a man and wanted "him" to die so Steve Trevor could remain in his body, though only she could see his face - so the man's family and friends would see nothing but him acting unlike himself and loving a woman he had never met before, and if he already had a girlfriend or wife...? Not to mention how Steve committed crimes whilst forced into hijacking his body, and the man was left nameless (thus lacking any characterisation whatsoever except for "Handsome Man" in the credits - gee, that's definitely objectification; aren't feminists supposed to be against that? Oh, right, that only applies to women, gotcha, bigoted arseholes).

I fully agree; almost no-one talks about just how screwed up Diana's sexist homeland is, and Marston's abhorrent interests and worldview just should never have been immortalised in this revolting character. There were far more appealing heroes that deserve Diana's spotlight, like Plastic-Man, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, and more, but have been left by the wayside. Heck, the only real attention Plastic-Man's gotten is from the old Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoon, since it specifically tried to bring in as many oft-forgotten characters as it could.

A petty thief-turned-shapeshifting-hero is a far more engaging character than a warrior woman from a land of misandrists could ever be, yet the latter's the one that managed to gain public attention.

I've literally never heard of the heroes Akira is talking about. Who the hell is Green Lantern? And Flash? It's all Wonder Woman I see!

"There were far more appealing heroes that deserve Diana's spotlight, like Plastic-Man, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, and more"

So, four beloved characters who have absolutely had their times to shine (one of which who has the most popular television show in a connected television universe), and one admittedly niche character who's still had plenty of attention paid to him? Yeah, definitely starved for spotlight over there.

Regarding the main post; this honestly just reeks of misogyny, in every single point you make.

1) You gloss over Superman falling into some of the same issues that you claim for Wonder Woman, but kryptonite exists so he's just forgiven? In fact, I'd argue that Superman is worse in this aspect as outside of literal magic and a radioactive rock from space? He legitimately has zero weakness, and he can't even be run ragged until he dies of exhaustion... which happens to be something that CAN happen to Wonder Woman, and that Batman built her contingency plan around. I'd call that a weakness. But beyond this, this happens to be an issue with a ton of DC heroes, where they have minimal if any weaknesses. A good number of them are gods/godlike beings brought down to a mortal level. This isn't exclusive to Wonder Woman.

2) Please elaborate and explain why farming and weaving are more "acceptable" activities than combat for a fictional society ruled by women. Do they have no need for self preservation and defense? Are they to just rely on the Gods for protection, or allow invaders free reign over their homeland? Warrior tribes are nothing new, and in fact the concept of the Amazonian women far outdates DC's adaptation. Themyscira's view of men isn't exactly good either, you're not wrong. But that's why it's one of their societies flaws, and why a large portion of Diana's various stories involve her evolving past this viewpoint.

3) Marston's world views are indeed flawed, but they're also a direct inversion of stereotypical patriarchal viewpoints. Almost as if neither viewpoint is ideal... which is exactly what Wonder Woman embodies as she evolves past her home's misandristic views and works to help protect the world. Not just with her people, and not just protect women. But works with the other men of the Justice League, to defend everyone, everywhere.

4) While I haven't personally seen WW84, so I can't comment further, I have heard nothing but disdain for that plot point. Yet the way you continue on a small tirade against feminism as a whole because of a scene from a movie just gives me no desire to ponder that point any further, and tarnishes any good faith I had in your argument. You had it, right on the nose, and then you had to keep going and fumble it. Good job.

This post is so embarrassing dude jfc. You've entirely glossed over any nuance the character has because you've already built up your weirdo-misogynist interpretation of her without doing any research. She's much more interesting in the comics and a lot of your critiques are just as applicable if not more applicable to most existing male superheroes. @RyRyIV already has a detailed critique of your opinion so I'll just post a haha funny image in response.

Come on, the man deserves his opinnion. Yes, WW is basically Super Man, and can actually slap him around because she has a magic whip. And Super Macho is powerless against magic.

And yes, she'll win regardless. She's a super hero. That's kinda their thing.
