My 3DS is dead.

FACK YOU Waterbottle!

Well I had a Badminton thingy. and well my water bottle was in my bag as well as my 3DS was.

So I came home with a smile. It vanished after I opened the pouch my 3DS was in.

I began to cy since it was on(to count my steps I made) and I opened the thing. The upper screen did not work. >.<

me turned it off, asked my father. He tried everything he could because it was wet when it was on! Well after drying it.(He knows what he was doing there) he turned it on. All hope is lost for me. Its dead. FUUUU I cry again.

Well no traces of water...

I am brining it to my game store in hope they don´t find anything! ^^

I am screwed, I did put about 650€ in it with games included I HAVE 9 GAMES.

THE RELEASE OF SELDA OOT IS NEARING AND I DON´T HAVE MY 3DS ANYMORE :glare:

Damn man I hope you understand my problem I did cry for 1 hour because of the time I did put in this device.

Damn I need my DSi XL with some good games. Could someone recommend me one I could play for a while?

Sure beats paying $250 for a new 3DS.

And I don't remember it being THAT expensive. When money's a bit low my dad used to just make rice-based dishes because it was cheap.

Nah not so expensive here in Holland. I have enough rice in house right now.

Lets wait for my father when he comes home from work.

Referring to pics; will it help to get most of it out of my screen?

Compared to Singapore that is... :P

Well, still affordable though. I prefer bread! Am I turning into a white!? :P

Get in in an airing cupboard for a few days to get all the water out of it. Then take it back where you got it, say its messed up and demand a refund.
Make sure all the waters gone and they'll give you a replacement. Just say theres a problem with the software.

I will use rice so it will absorb the water out of the screen hopefully.

But it is playable. ^^ Colors are screwed but I can play on it! :D

I wouldn't, I have a feeling it'd just warp the plastic or fry the components if it's outside too long. Just stick to the rice and/or keep it in an area where it can air out.

^^ thanks! Aired; is a fan good too?

Also how much of the damage I would be able to restore to normal?

I think a fan on low or something would help. I mean my friends have just stuck to the rice trick personally, I'd air it out afterwards if the problem persists.

AFAIK, the 3D screen has different layers. Are you sure your dad dried the other layers?

Nothing is dried yet. Ill do tonight when my dad is at home.

I am an electronics technician, and i have repaired at least 4 devices that were water soaked (one ipod that did a complete washing cycle) 2 phones, 2 ipods. One ipod was even repaired over 6 months later, and luckily battery was still good.

Open the device completely, grab a toothbrush ( a clean one) and use isoprophyl alcohol. Wet the toothbrush with alcohol, and gently scrub the ENTIRE pcb (printed circuit board). Gently is a key word here. There might be a little piece of cloth/paper on top of the mic, remove it and blow inside, in case water accumulated. You want to remove all stains (usually white) from the board.

Alcohol will evaporate quickly let it dry a few mins, reassemble and hope for the best.

If you tried turning it on while wet, there is a good chance you destroyed the fuses though, to replace them , you will need someone with soldering skills. There is no harm if you try to turn it on with burned fuses, it will just not work.

You can test the fuses with a continuity meter (a multimeter set to resistance) if there is no continuity from one side to another, the fuses are dead. (I think there are 2 in a 3ds, at least there are in a DSi) Unfortunately , i cannot tell you where they are, i do not own a 3ds, but google sure can help you there.

Most devices can survive water damage. Especially little gadgets because most of their parts inside are sealed (capacitors) unlike bigger electronics, where the capacitors could absorb water, and need to be change as they can't dry the way they are built.

Good luck
