Complaining vs. Contributing

Guys. I think it's stupid that I have to make this clear.

Think you're a valuable member of the community? Have something to say? Have ideas to help? There are better ways to go about it than posting rants. Do something about it. Even if it's radical, useless, and even stupid, at least you gave it a shot. Even if you fail in fixing whatever it is you want to help, at least you tried-- and trust me, it's way better than constantly posting eloquent rants and hoarding agreements and likes which ultimately amount to nothing.

Maybe keep a daily task list. Post a crazy idea. Post something outside of the EOF for once. Help a new member. Anything to keep you sane and keep your contributions high.

Yes, I realize that this blog is highly hypocritical. But at least it's something that doesn't get said. Posting the same opinions, thoughts, memes, complaints, whatever it may be as the rest of the site isn't helping anyone; and while it might be fun every once in a while, it doesn't make you deserving of a higher spot on the site or make you particularly special.

Or you could not. You could continue along the same path and no one else is going to call you out on it. But know that it won't get you anywhere; if you want upward mobility, complaining is not the way to get there.

Like Dino said most do both. And there is nothing wrong with ranting it gets the word and ideas out so other people can also choose to go along with it and you make something greater!

Most do both? because it seems like there are an awful lot of rants and far fewer people actually helping. And helping doesn't just mean linking the Plailect guide in a 3DS thread.

Some of you seem to have an inflated ego, there's a big difference between complainin and helping, and that line has been blurred by some people
Where's the reviews
Where's the news
Where's anything
you're not helping by complaining, nor will this reply help

A lot of the people ranting maybe already even do it. And most do it in at least some sort of way! Although there are many rants and some people do not but from what I've seen what I said is pretty accurate maybe I don't read enough who knows. And yes I do agree with the last part

Some people just can't change, or they won't accept it. There will always be one person saying "You got ninja'd" whatever that means when is absolutly not necessary, there will always be one person disregarding, condecending another person for trying to feel suprior again, not necessary, there will be people who complain just to complain, but is all personal reasons we don't understand. Is who we are, we try adapting to it or we ignore it. But it all comes down to effort in understanding, allowing things to happen or putting effot to stop and make changes. People change people, but it just takes some more effort and motivation and inspiration for some others, with no one making progress the same pace, is a hard adaption process but it all comes down to individual to do what they want as we cannot force change in one who wish not to do so. :(

(Oh, I can see this was aimed towards my blog...)

Anyway, I'm with Dinoh; I prefer to do both. Where I can; when I can.

I honestly don't often rant like I did in my blog, but:
a) someone had to do it
b) I just really felt I had to put out my feelings to the world for once...

Oh, and can I point out that I definitely do contribute to the community, you know...
I mean, look at the Vita section, for instance. I have a stickied guide (yet to update later) and a thread that made it to the front page. As well as this, I have posted a good amount of advice and help I have given users there, and I have been successfully able to solve their problems. Completely contributing there!

So I don't really understand why OP is sort of targetting me just for pointing out some things that I felt needed to be pointed out again...

I don't think OP is "targeting" anyone, he just seems to want people to take action, rather than repeatedly rallying...and in the end accomplishing nothing besides spreading the "discontent" that the forums are degrading in quality, which just gets some people needlessly uppity.

@Voxel you do a lot of good things on the site, it's just that your blog seemed to be the tipping point

Oh? Alright then, I guess that does make sense. I do suppose I have touched on a sensitive subject, and I should've done better to prevent it, to be honest.

I was probably just really upset yesterday which drove me to do some complaining for a brief period of time. :(

(plus, I just woke up to find this entry today, which kinda upset me a bit more, however could completely understand why the OP did it in most respects.)

I never pointed out anybody or aimed it at anyone in particular, so don't worry Voxel. It's just something a little different to be said.

Good post. I often see posts complaining about sections of the forum being "cancerous" or stuff like that. Idk, I feel like saying those things makes you seem arrogant.

Honestly I think the major problems begin with what is tolerated on the site itself.
I have always been radically against unfriendly talk to noobs and to old users.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

  • Jayro @ Jayro:
The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
