I feel empty

I feel like a sponge that soaks up personality traits from other people. Then later I wringe it out and become empty again. I feel like I don't even have a personality sometimes.

If you want a good example of how I feel, look up Parasyte the Maxim where the protagonist loses all emotions.

You misunderstand, I don't feel depressed at all. I'm also not distressed. I'm just making observations.

I have to say though, I have only heard such comments from depressed people. I am sure you have a personality.

Don't worry, but it never changes.

One time, like 20 years ago, my girlfriend at the time told me that when we talked it was like I only had a series of catchphrases I would use as conversation. I basically took it as being told I have no soul.

Maybe you don't want to lose friendship and be alone, so you just "act like them, like the same things"?

is it only in the way you act and speak with others, or do you think it also affect what you do when you are alone?
When you are alone, you have your personality, for example being here! liking video games, etc., isn't it your own choice?

I suppose you do have your own personality, even if it's "empty", it's still what you are, no ? Maybe your personality is "sponge" :P
If you feel like being a sponge, maybe you are too much empathic (emotional and/or cognitive).

I can totally relate with the catchphrases thing. Also, I don't actually care enough most of the time to try to appeal to everyone. I just do what I like to do and if someone likes it, even better. Another thing that bugs me is people call me an idiot for having an opinion. Maybe I should put a disclaimer saying, hey this is my opinion please don't get triggered.

No, I get angry when people make assumptions about me that aren't true. Being accused of something I didn't do, that kind of thing.

I'd rather be protected. It depends on how well I know the person. Still fun either way.

Ah, to be honest, I'm married and have a kid now, so kind of a moot point really. They did a test at the hospital which I guess showed we didn't have AIDS or syphilis. That's all you can hope for really.
