This month's lineup of free games for PS+ subscribers has been announced. February will see Evil Dead: The Game, OlliOlliWorld, Destiny 2's Beyond Light expansion, and Mafia Definitive Edition available to play for users subscribed to any tier of PlayStation Plus. They'll all be claimable on February 7th, and if you haven't claimed January's games, you have until then to do so.

Additionally, it was revealed that the PlayStation Plus Collection will be ending soon. Available originally as a bonus for those who bought a PlayStation 5 console during its first few years on the market, the collection offered 20 games--19 now, as the original release of Persona 5 was delisted from the collection last year--featuring some of the biggest PlayStation 4 titles, all backwards compatible on PS5. You can still claim the games and keep them forever, so long as you have a subscription, but you'll need to do so before May 9th.

Highly recommend OlliOlli World to any fans of skating games that haven't played it yet. Pulling off full stage combos after learning and combining all the available techniques feels amazing. Great aesthetics and music too.

Not a bad month... but wasn't Destiny2 already a freebie a few years back?
I really wanted to like the original Olli!Olli! when it first launched on 3ds, but it just lacked something - however I will give this version a go.
Is the Evil Dead game any good? Presume it's free to help promote the new movie which is releasing soon.

Pretty much... except the PS+ Collection was a launch incentive and the 3DS Ambassador program was a "sorry we screwed early adopters when we dropped our prices".

Nah, not so much. N gave people NES and GBA games. Sony gave people things like Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Days Gone, God of War, Persona 5, Ratchet and Clank, Resident Evil 7, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted 4, etc.

Uh, except that they are. Both were incentives for early adopters of a system. The PS+ collection just happened to be on an actual console and not a handheld. Of course the titles on offer for the Nintendo Ambassador were “”worse”” games than getting PS4 games on your PS5. And it’s not like they gave away outright bad games either, a lot of the games they gave were actually pretty decent. They were just limited to Virtual Console cause that’s what they could manage on it at the time.

I misunderstood your op. I thought you were referring to the PS+ Collection. I don't like the monthy Plus games either. But I guess I like them more than the ones on Xbox this time around. But that's not saying a whole lot.

the Evil Dead game is really good it was free with epic a month or so ago at 1st look i thought it was a Dead By Daylight Clone .. but its much better in many ways the maps are huge you can drive around the map .. ! get it !! Mafia is also a Nice Freebie !! i

So sony let you keep games as long as you have added them during the period its been listed, so when its been removed from the available games, you can still grab it from your library list.

Microsoft does the same. also, the last few months of 360 bc games, you were able to keep them even if you dropped the subscription. Gamepass games come and go if they're third party.

Microsofts "Games with Gold" is actually a far better model; same as PS+, if you have a subscription you can add the games to your library, but unlike PS+ they're still 'yours' (ie. playable) if you don't renew your subscription.

I thought both require you to have an active subscription, just im reading MS website and it sounds like you have to buy the game if you want to continue playing it after its been removed.

Older Xbox and 360 games did not require an active subscription because they were designed for a different store backend, so MS just gave everyone digital copies of those games whenever they were up for grabs as monthly Games with Gold perks, with no strings attached. So for many years, that service was a decent deal for getting old games added to your library.

However, that era is over since going forward they will only be putting Xbox One (and eventually Series X/S) games up. No more original Xbox or 360 titles.
