Hello! I own two Wii Us. The first Wii U is fully functional, up to date, and soft-modded with Aroma. The other Wii U freezes in the start menu, isn't up to date, and isn't modded. It was used by me when I was young. Maybe six to eight. I don't remember what I did to it. Currently, when I turn it on I can select a profile and create new profiles, when making a new profile I can even create a new Mii. Everything up to here works fine but once I select the profile and boot into the start menu it freezes.

What I've tried:
- Syncing a new gamepad
- Creating a new profile
- Deleting the original profile
- Removing and reinserting the battery
- Using some button combos I've read about (X + B + Y + A), (ZR + ZL + R + L)
- Trying to use udpih_nxpayload (did not boot into recovery mode even though I followed the instructions and the Switch said it succeeded)

I've ordered a Rasberry Pi Pico to see if the udpih payload works and attempt to fix the Wii U but it arrives tomorrow. Is there anything else I can try while waiting?

It freezes before showing the Wii U Menu or does it only freeze once you try to launch something from the Wii U Menu?

If the firmware is not 5.5.x USPIH won't work, but we could still use the Pico for defuse if nothing else helps.

It freezes once the Wii U menu loads in. On the gamepad, I can see all of the apps except for any physical games and on the screen, I can see WaraWara Plaza. WaraWara plaza doesn't fully load though. The Wii U has the TVii app so I think it is under 5.5.0. I'll look into getting everything I need for defuse.

On the 5.5.5 firmware it freezes as soon as you try to load a game if the BT module is broken. But on the older firmware it might behave differently.
Can you try syncing a wii mote on the user selection screen? (not sure if it lets you do that)

You could also make a shot in the dark and try swapping the wireless modules with the other Wii U

I purchased a wii mote from a used games store and it connected just fine. Personally, I just think the start menu is corrupted but I don't know much about wii us.

Hey, I read up on de_fuse and it says you need an otp.bin. Can the opt.bin from my working wii u be used?

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
