I would like to say that I am at my wits end with my lovingly used 3ds XL but honestly I digress. Here’s what I tried so far

- removed the contact film thing that the select button has on the motherboard, cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol (100%), and reattached it. I saw no dust or spec that could’ve interfered

- removed the select button alongside the rubber thing to see whether or not the select button being registered as pressed down persists. It still does!

I would know that the select button is still being pressed anyway because whenever I turn it on, Luma config appears.

Help me please! What do I do now? I thought it was a software issue so I formatted my 3ds, but alas it still persists :(

hmmmmmmm.... did you back up everything before that format? Cause full system wipes are the last things that are said to be done. if its still going on then its likely hardware related.

Yes I’ve done a backup! I do recall this did start happening when I installed universal updater and updated luma I do agree with you though, if it’s still persisting SURELY it’s hardware related right?

but I’m like honestly baffled as to how this is still happening even without the button attached!!!!!

Maybe I have to clean around where the select button is but I don’t know where/which connector to go do.... What do you think?

i would check the board where the buttons lay. there could be some dust or the likes that is being a pain and causing it. There is ifixit that has the board layouts for the 3ds

Tony do you sill have this issue? I have the exact same thing going on right now and the last I remember was installing universal updater just like you. Did you resolve it in the end?

Hello! I have the same problem, and I actually think it was about the time I downloaded the Universal Updater as well? But I am not sure, it's been more than a year.
If anyone has an update on it, let we know.

Also, I think I might use rehid to disable select.

Edit: I have also formatted my Old 3DS, it didn't help either :(

Hello!
I was talking on the Nintendo Homebrew Discord server about this issue and someone told me to do 2 things: first, using Rehid to remap the Select Button to nothing in-game (and I mapped Start+B to Select). Second, use a different version of boot.firm that does not use Select as the Luma Menu opener. It is working, I think.
I can send you the file, if you need to. GBATemp won't let me upload here, but maybe on DMs or Discord?

Anyways, I might stick to this solution and observe if it has anything to do with the software mentioned before.

UPDATE: I renamed godmode9 firm to boot.firm and put it into SD root directory, and then 3DS can boot into GodMode9. However, the SELECT button still stucks in GodMode9 and it makes CTRTransfer impossible.

Hello. Currently I have the same issue with my O2DS. I checked the motherboard and buttons, tried cleaning them but the issue still exists.
According to the discussion in this thread, I think that it seems to be a software issue. I am going to perform a CTRTransfer as a try. However, with normal Luma3DS the system cannot boot into GodMode9 because of the pressed SELECT button. Could you please send me the download link or tell me where to get the modified boot.firm file? I will appreciate it a lot thanks.

I also have the select button stuck with Lima 3ds so if you could give me the boot.firm with the select button changed I would appreciate it.

You can get older ones even like the pi 3,4 for cheap, but they don't play gamecube, Wii etc very well. Be warned they use a Linux os, which you need to load onto a micro SD card yourself. You can find pre built images like "retro-pie" online free tho which makes it easy to setup.
