I haven't been able to verify this, but I think the idea is letters/sounds (字母) "A, B, C" etc are used to produce characters/words (字) "啊, 伯, 从"

Tbh I mostly am interested in Chinese for historical reasons and speaking to Chinese people

Have not stepped into Chinese Internet culture

I only know a few internet slang terms because random people taught them to me

人从众 ren2 cong2 zhong4

Basically it's the person hanzi 6 times and means:

A fuckton of people, or giant crowd

But people would never actually say this IRL

Honestly fair, getting into internet culture is really overwhelming when learning a language, kinda sucks that's the main reason I wanna learn Japanese lol

Big problem with learning a foreign language is how a whole lot of vocabulary and even parts of grammar are completely outdated and unused by the time they make it to the curriculum. What was on fleek then isn't fire fr fr today.
You spend years learning "¿Donde está la biblioteca?" and you go online and you're hit with this:
