You are not expecting any more 3D world games? O_O system is barely 2 years old.

In october Pokemon x and y, might not be your type though.

Not sure if Bravely Default flying fairy counts, it's coming out this year in EU.

Read the rest of the thread HG. Thats what im saying. nothing is really pushing the polygon rendering system of the 3DS in making me a 3rd person explorable world like SM64DS or Ocarina of Time did. Everything else is from a fixed camera perspective, Luigis Mansion, New Zelda, Animal Crossing New Leaf... Etc.

XYZ you are still locked into a griddy pattern to walk around on (OMG now with diagonals)

I dont know anything about BD.

Open world is kinda a poor genre tag, as i dont really know of one that i can really use to pin down what im trying to explain.

We are still not entirely sure whether it's grid based or free movement. Some scenes have indicated it to be 360 movement. Anyhow nevertheless 8 direction movement is better than 4. It's a full 3D game end of day, I don't think 8 way direction movement is a make or break deal for me.

If you want nice 3d world games, devs need to invest some time and of course costs spike. That's an issue I see. No doubt 3ds can handle such games. Luigi Mansions 2 is very good looking game pushing the 3DS polygons, but it's not the genre you are after. It's been easier for devs to not spend a long time for game development and keep costs low, example nsmb2 and sm3Dl.

I don't think it has peaked as the system is fairly young, games continue to take full use of the 3ds hardware, I don't think the genre you are after has happened often. You may get a few 3D adventure games down the line.

Jump the shark is television idiom when a TV show declines in quality like Fonzie in Happy Days literally jumping over a shark. Peak in the context I mean, is referring to maximum quality. Which I reckon can be appropriated towards what you're saying i.e. has the 3DS already fulfilled it's potential for 3D action gaems.

Or just get a Vita and a copy of Gravity Daze.

Why are you over here again?

Resident Evil seems to be the closest we've got so far (apart from Kid Icarus and the many ports), even if it's rather linear.

The 3DS is not going to be a N64... See in that time, 3D graphics in video games were revolutionary to the point that 2D games were mostly ignored during that generation. I do believe there are going to be more N64 ports, but there have been some time that 3D open world adventures in the mold of the SM64 are not as common even in home consoles.

I believe that we will have a regular 3D Zelda though, since I don't think Ninty would miss the chance to show-off the 3DS power. I would love some kind of direct sequel to Super Mario 64, since I'm not very fond with what Nintendo did to the series in Super Mario Sunshine and Galaxy and although I loved Super Mario 3D Land, I miss the Mario 64 focus on exploration and missions.

The 3DS have shown a lot of open world games like SML3D, RE: Revelations, Kid Icarus, Monster Hunter. It certainly is getting more of this kind of titles than the DS. Problem is most of them won't be inspired by the N64 type of games.
