I don't get that thread one bit.

I mean, Gateway vs CFW, well that's a debate. Paid vs free, convenient cheats vs not so convenient cheats, convenient .3ds plus .cia vs .cia only, etc.

But Sky3DS vs other things ?? What ?
That thread should be "Why would anyone want a Sky3DS instead of a Gateway or CFW?" in my opinion.

And don't tell me "yeah but Sky supports all firmwares" because first, downgrade supports all firmwares, and second, ok downgrading is kind of "new" but if I managed to keep my O3DS (came with 7.x in 2013) under 9.2 all this time and if I managed to get a N3DS on 9.0, everyone who bought a Sky3DS (meaning "pirates") could have done some efforts...

The only reason to buy a SKY3DS at the moment is to emulate Cubic Ninja.

Gateway were the first to enable 3DS backups to be played back in the day. I got mine in May of 2014, when there was no Sky3DS or CFW.

It stills works to this day. Runs everything I throw at it (provided high enough emuNAND), can use any CFW, I play 3DS ROM hacks like Pokemon and fan translations, etc; cheats, you name it.

Nowadays you can definitely bypass buying one, but before the summer of 2014 it was your only option. The 3DS scene has exploded in the last 2 years. For the 3 years before 2014, there was virtually nothing but hope.

Sky3DS are imitators. At this point, just use CFW as you can do a lot more. A Gateway is superior in nearly every aspect to Sky.

This is spot on.

It was the only option for back ups at one time. Most gateway users have had the cart since it was released almost 3 years ago. And when it launched there was no multi rom, no region free, no firmware spoofing, and no online play. People who bash gateway don't realize that it's been out before any CFW was out and at that time it was totally worth the price people paid.

Then again, you do have that. A very valid point there. My argument is for newcomers to the scene.

I bought gateway when it was the only thing around. Why would I want to spend more money on a Sky?

CFW? The whole thing just seems confusing to me what exactly needs to be done vs drop some ROMS on the Gateway card and occasionally update the Gateway software and emunand. And heaven forbid you ask anyone for help or amidst those that might actually try to help, there's sure to be those dickwads waiting to rip you a new asshole for asking questions instead of "using search".

CFW works fine, but you NEED to patch AGB_FIRM or you can't play GBA games.
No, it doesn't. It won't launch gba. it won't launch dsi. it won't even launch the installed .cia's, and none are even attempting to detect or read from the red card for .3ds games.

So at this point, why the hell did I just waste so much aggravation for a thing that doesn't work?

It should launch installed CIAs, what's the error?

And I told you that GBA and DSI games won't work without AGB firm patching or TWL_FIRM patching.

You can't play .3ds games from CFW, only .CIAs.

Again. "An error has occurred" but at this point, not even the Home button works. So the only option is to turn the whole thing off and start all over. IF I can even start over.

With Rxtools it was even crashing just trying to launch into it, and then the 3DS would say "an error has occurred to force a restart" and then just bring me back to my original sysnand. So it can't even keep its own launcher straight.

Because its perfect for those who only care to play 3ds games, thats it. Load a rom and play. People need to understand what each item offers, the level of use and understanding.

Well my emunand is updated to 10.7 and i dont really want to switch my nands. I did hear that was a thing, but I still feel that my setup blows away from gateway. Even when I first got my gateway it just felt weird to me. Im not saying its bad, im just saying i prefer cfw woth ntr.

You can convert gateway cheats to ntr anyways. They both work the same. And I know you werent talking to me, but I have used the gateway for most of my emunand lifetime, heck i used gateway to make my emunand and i still have that. They both have their advantages, but some people just prefer digital over physical.

See even saying gateway is easy to use, i find it that people may be just lazy to take the full digital route. Im not saying all are, but some just dont want to take the time to use cias. And since a9hl came out, booting emunand is quite faster than gateway so i see that as a plus. And with installing cias, i can install it and if i dont like it i dont have to take my sd card out of my gateway and put it into my pc to delete it (maybe that changed). I like having all digital games. Even if you can just have all of them on a gateway menu, to even run them online you still need a private header :/ so you cant argue against sky3ds with that bc you need it as well.

Not about a digital route, its about knowing how to use each item. I can go the CFW route if I had wanted it but because there are other members in my family who like to "touch" my system I have to give them a route easy to use, I had to restore my system twice already with hardmod.

Why these threads come up is just plain lazy thinking, so the next time you think about those using a card base solution, at least they made a decision and stuck with it.

i don't have a gateway, but i would buy one if i had the opportunity. i could have a clean homemenu without all of the games there, and backing up saves with savedatafiler would be easier than having to look up what title id is which game

EDIT: /offtopic 666th post lmao. what now?

It takes me like 10 minutes tops to pull the micro sd card out of my gateway and put it in my computer to copy several new games in .3ds format to give back to my kids to play with.

Fast, and simple. They are sick of all game and want a new set, again simple. Delete all files, copy new ones, insert back in gateway.. Back in business.

CIA is time consuming comparatively to do the same things.

That's why I prefer Gateway over CFW by itself.

I used to wonder this myself.
I have to admit though its nice not having to do FBI injection and constant 45 min. cia installs so I see the appeal.
Sky3ds is even more simple to use but has drawbacks such as no eshop and lack of features.

In short, the appeal of GW is convenience. (please don't lynch me, i still prefer cfw :P)

I personally don't want to support Gateway after the whole bricking thing, but I'm not going to stop anyone who wants to use it, or tell them to use something else. it is convenient and I can see why some people would like it. but you just shouldn't brick $100/$200 pieces of hardware, for whatever reason.
