For all of you late adopters to the 3DS family - hold on just a little bit longer! Come May 20th, 2016 the suggested retail price of Nintendo's increasingly affordable 2DS system drops $20 - from $99.99 to just $79.99.

In addition, some systems will even come installed with Mario Kart 7, arguably one of the console's biggest "must have" game.

That $20 savings can then be reinvested in, you guessed it, more games! 'Nintendo Selects' Reprints of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Yoshi's New Island, Mario Party: Island Tour, and more can be bought for $19.99.

As many will point out, the 2DS does not allow you to play games in 3D, but aside from a few NEW 3DS exclusives, it plays all of the same games that the regular 3DS can. For those with children, those who don't care about 3D, and just overall cost efficient consumers; May 20th is the best time to jump on board the handheld hype train!

This may just be me, but the 3D in movies and the 3DS is a lot, LOT different than the 3D of real life. Just sayin'. The 3D is nothing more than an illusion to the eye and I don't think anyone truly feels like they're actually in the game/movie. Real life isn't just a bunch of layered 2D images to pop out at you from a window. The things around you actually exist in an interactive, three-dimensional space (which might not even be true, considering things like anti matter).

The thing with 3D is it introduces a color that 2D can never do. Its hard to describe, but 3D introduces the color of empty space. When watching something in stereo movie or game, you sense the empty space in between objects for the first time. Where as that transparent color of which I can only describe as 'empty' can never be duplicated in 2D. This is the reason why I play the games in 3D, when you get used to it, you miss that empty space color.

Its very hard to describe, unless you play every game in 3D. Its hard for me to go back to 2D anymore on the system. The only downside is the loss of framerate when in 3D mode, but since the N3DS cpu and cache has been unlocked, its fixed the framerate issue on 3D performance.

There's no realistic reason for them to combine an advanced version of a system and a dummied down version of the system.

Not really, the SE has the A9 processor and the 12 MP rear camera from the 6s, but no 3D Touch and 1st gen. Touch ID, also the front camera is still 1,2 MP.

Perhaps a New 2DS "XL" would be a good idea, bit bigger screens and all the power of the n3DS (which is standard now). A bit more ergonomic/player-friendly than the current 2DS. Longer battery life. Also some more 'kiddie' level games that aren't too hard to play and use spoken word to explain what to do. And of course a very robust cartridge slot; easy for kids to take them out/put them in. Everything else n3DS-like accessible by removing screws. There's still plenty of money to be made by Nintendo.

3DS already looks cheap and childish, this does even more.
I agree that 2DS has to be like this but Nintendo could've made 3DS and New 3DS with a better design.
Also, it's more voluminous and heavy than it should be.

I hope this is essentially a clearance to make room for a New 2ds.
I really liked the 2ds and its funky unportable retro styling, but it doesn't translate into mass-market sales. Lets hope the New 2ds, if it exists, will fix that.

The 2DS price drop is cool, but I'm more interested in OoT3D being resold, and at half price no less!
Ever since OoTHax, it's been hard to find any copies for a decent price.

i thought ocarina had a 1.1 cart version with OoTHax patched and people would differentiate the versions through serials
so i suppose the nintendo selects edition is 1.1..
