Yifan Lu Announces HENKaku - A New Native Vita Homebrew Enabler for 3.60.

Earlier today, Yifan Lu, a well-known member of the Vita hacking scene famous for the Rejuvenate hack for the Dev Assistants, has announced that a new (native!) Vita homebrew enabler for the latest firmware version, as of writing (3.60), will be arriving tomorrow at "9:00AM UTC".

The new hack, known as "HENKaku", will require the following:
  • A Vita/PSTV running 3.60
  • A memcard with at least 10MB of free space (internal memory is currently not supported!)
  • An FTP client
  • An internet connection**
**Offline support is now available! Launch the exploit straight from the email app without the need for internet access at all! See the unofficial release thread for more details. (Internet connection still required for installation)

This is a small paragraph of Yifan Lu himself explaining what the properties of this new homebrew enabler does:

HENkaku simply lets you install homebrew as bubbles in LiveArea. It is a native hack that disables the filesystem sandbox. It installs molecularShell, a fork of VitaShell that lets you access the memory card over FTP and install homebrew packages (which we create as VPK files). With vita-toolchain, developers have access to the same system features licensed developers have access to as well as undocumented features that licensed developers cannot use (including overclocking the processors).

The hack has been released at http://henkaku.me ~ Furthermore, the hack is said to be exclusive to 3.60, and there is to be no backports for the time being.

Think I read that if you save you have to give it a min or two before closing the app or it doesn't register the save.

Oh really? :O Will try that.

Nope, doesn't work. It creates the saves, but retroarch has trouble reading it.

Edit: I looked more into it, and it's currently broken, but the dev is looking into it.

Yep the Vita RetroArch savestate loading has been broken for about a couple of months now. That's why when I run CATSFC and Genesis Plus GX via Rejuvenate I'm still using March 2016 builds that load and save without issue.

To those of you enjoying the fruits of Team Molecule's labour, welcome aboard! Nice to see VitaShell and a load of other apps getting some use now they're easier to run (Rejuvenate pushing VELFs from an Android smartphone was always a pain). I'm not upgrading yet because I'd lose use of TheFloW's PS1 Loader and TN-V, so no more THPS2 (for example of a game you can't buy) on the move. When someone(s) have got PSP and PS1 support I'm all over that.

HENkaku is the future. But it's not quite there yet. What a shot in the arm for the Vita homebrew scene though, haven't seen the boards this busy in over six months!

Yeah, nice to see it like this and hopefully more surprises will follow and my Vita has had more use out of it over the past weekend than the whole 4 years of owning it.

and there were even custom themes , it was awesome.

i gave my vita away some year ago, i was too bored of it.

WebSample Installer by Mooliecool

Installs the removed system app "NPXS10916" into ux0, with original bg0 and icon0. NOTE: eboot used was most likely patched to not work in a previous update <3.30. Perhaps it can be used for an exploit if it was removed at one point.

what does this app do? I dont get it.

The latest RealBoy has a speed up option, but more importantly, an icon! :D My home screen looks so much prettier now it's not just empty bubbles <3

Yeah, I installed it too. Seems a nice bubble... hope we could possibly crack it open for later FWs in the future. :)
yeah for sure i hope that too
somebody should poke around the eboot

the vita is so nice and powerful device it deserves a big homebrew base
imagine the full control of it... :grog:

Okay, so the WebSample thing gave me an excellent idea!
I remember making a backup of the Package Installer app when I was on 3.15 once.

I just made it into a vpk package just like the WebSample was made into one, and I installed it to my 3.60 Vita and tried it out:

(Apologies for big images!)

The really weird thing about it, is that it prompted for an update every time I tried to open it; just like the PSM Dev assistants did on 3.52!
