Mario Kart 8: Deluxe surpasses Mario Kart Wii as fastest selling game in the series

Nintendo has revealed the launch day numbers for Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, which shows the game to be the fastest selling in the series, pushing over 459,000 copies on April 28th alone, reflecting both physical and digital sales, and surpassing Mario Kart Wii's (433,000 launch copies sold) previous record. Nintendo also claims that 45% of Switch owners purchased the game on launch. Nintendo Switch sales are also mentioned in the press release, and at the time of writing, 2.7 million systems have been sold worldwide.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has also received more perfect review scores than any other Mario Kart game ever. With a current Metacritic score of 93, the critically acclaimed title is the highest-rated game in the series in 15 years – tying the overall review score of Mario Kart: Super Circuit for Game Boy Advance.

To continue this strong momentum into the summer, a series of great games will launch for Nintendo Switch over the next few months, including Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition (May 11), Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers (May 26), ARMS (June 16) and Splatoon 2 (July 21).

EDIT: Mario Kart 8: Deluxe made it's way to #1 on the UK charts as well, becoming the first number 1 physical released Nintendo game to reach that peak since 2011's Pokemon White. Breath of the Wild itself didn't even reach #1, staying a place behind to Sony's Horizon Zero Dawn.

That's a beast, outpacing a freaking Wii in launch sales.

Any chance of including UK sales, it's the first Mario game to top the UK charts since 2008, first Nintendo game to top the UK charts since 2011 (Pokemon White) and beat Mario kart 7 and Mario kart 8 in first week sales.
I didn't get an EU/UK press release from Nintendo, but I'll look up the info and work it into the OP.

Is it even good?

Not much good title to choose from on NX anyway ;)
But if you like the Mario Kart series and don't own the original Mario Kart 8 on WiiU it's worth to try. It already was the best MK in many ways and alot of the problems got fixed with this version (e.g. Battle Mode and in parts the characters to choose from where fixed. Still not perfect in regards of characters, but decent).

All in all a great game every NX owner should take a look at since it's at least on of the best MK games if not the best (opinions are devided on which is the best, but not on the matter that it's one of the best entries in the series) :)

Nintendo Switch has secured its first UK No.1 with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

In fact, it's the first Nintendo boxed game to get to No.1 since 2011, when the format holder topped the charts with Pokémon White on DS. It's also the first Mario game to reach the top of the charts since Mario Kart Wii in 2008.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
