New switches come with 1.0 on them still right ? Talking the gray joycon versions.
Depends on the stock, probably not in the US/Japan, but I certainly just got a brand new 1.0.0 Neon Switch yesterday in Europe.

Are there any games with 2.xx update out there?
Arms have 2.1.0 and Splatoon 2 has 2.3.0 I believe

Thank you for the news after 17 days 3.0.1 came out! Really helpful.
Yeah, the typical "do not update, updates are bad" with their crypto language that no one understands

There nothing crypto about it. Simple rule is, if you care about any userland/kernel/homebrew/entrypoints..... keep the system on a low firmware until something useful is released, even it it takes years. Buy a second console for legit use.

People have only got themselves to blame, not the devs.

This.

Getting the news out sooner could quite possibly have come at the cost of future development, keep in mind these people have had to basically sacrifice a switch to confirm it (Until some new exploit is found), don't be ungrateful, these guys work in their spare time, with limited resources, while turning down bounty programs which could earn them a pretty penny.

Why bother buying another Switch when you can just wait? Further versions will be hacked and if anything, <3.0 being hacked opens the doors wide open to more exploits being discovered since more people will have access to the Switch's technical information.

I bought my switch 3 days ago and it came with 2.3.0.
The store had just gotten it in stock the same day and oddly they were taking reservations :D
https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-firmware-by-serial-number.481215/ Still no info, but I think the tempers will give more in the next days
From what I have been seeing it looks like a lot of them are coming with firmware version 2.2.0
Thanks for the info guys! It's very helpful.
I wont update and put +200hs on Zelda first. That should keep me entertained for the rest of the year. Then I will see how the scene evolves and evaluate if it's worthwhile to keep waiting for something to be released.

From what I understand, on 3.0.0 and lower you can't access the eShop and therefore I wont be able to access the Zelda Expansion Pass. Even if I bought one of those download codes at a retail store?

I really want to get on this low firmware hype, but not sure if I can afford it. Can I just buy a Switch from the store and not open it, and still be safe firmware-wise? Just in case if I end up returning it.

Yeah I'm concerned about that too. Newer games like Mario Odyssey, FE Warriors, etc. will most likely come with 3.0.1+ update... I don't mind buying another Switch to play newer games, but the one thing that bugs me is that you can't transfer save data from one console to another. I hope there will be a workaround to prevent newer games from updating the system to the latest firmware.
