Out of curiosity where do you live? My college is a mile in the line of sight of totality so I lucked out

Southern Indiana. That's probably why you guys shut down. Ours will be about 10 degrees off.

Ah, ok. Maybe they'll let the kids outside during some point in the day to at least see it. At worst I think there's supposed to be a solar eclipse in your area in 2024. I still have to go to my 10:00 class because the end of the world doesn't start until 2:30.

I use a Canon 60D. Not pro, but not cheap. Maybe cheapER since the 70D and 80D came out...
I do use a (relatively) cheap 300mm lens though ($199 Sigma). And also have 1 standard pro lens (24-105 f/4L)

But I would kill for a 5DS...

sky at eclipse and the sun, I don't have high end equipment or anything so its not going to looks any different

I took a picture with my solar glasses over the lens, still couldn't really tell. But you can tell that the ambient light in your pic is darker than it rightfully should be.
