Could this be used to launch an alternative Home version? Wohld love to see something like wiiflow or usbloader gx come to 3DS and offer up a better menu ui for launching games

There's already nothing stopping someone from building out some sort of home menu alternative or even something like wiiflow/usbloader gx for the 3ds (these are sorta independent from each other though) outside of the sheer amount of effort that would be needed to build out some alternate home menu/rom loader. We've already had everything we need from a permissions prospective for quite some time to do this, just no one's found it to be worth their time/effort to build out much in either of these areas

I think it would be great to have a new home menu. But the problem is, the default one works just fine and there's already so many cool themes for it. I thought I read somewhere that there's currently no way to run a CIA on startup. I could be wrong though because that seems like such a simple thing to do and I'm sure a cfw like Luma could easily add that feature.

It would have to be a payload in order to autoboot it.

It could be CIA or 3DSX thanks to Rosalina.

Doesnt have to be fancy, just a list of all games by name would be great. Dont even need cover art in the beginning. Think FBI does this sort of but title names are game id only

What does this have to do with the OP? This is not an in-development home menu replacement, it's a chainloader for .firm payloads.

Anyway, on topic with the thead, when I try and compile this from source and install it with openfirminstaller, it says "signature fail" when looking for the sighaxed firm, and won't install. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Release FIRMs are signed with a private key that only the main developers have - this is done to prevent accidental updates/bricks. You can still install it using GM9.

im courious and confused on what is this...
is this a replacement for b9s (something like a9lh then b9s then the fastboot)?
or another cfw like luma?
or a replacement for luma chainloading?
or a replacement .firm payload for godmode9?

It is a replacement for b9s or for saltmode9 (gm9 installed to firm0 and used as a bootloader).

What do you use this for?

It lets you have multiple payloads (CFW or other) and choose which one to boot by holding a button down. Think of it as a combination of bootctr9 and boot9strap. As an example, you can have Luma as boot.firm for normal use, Rei-Six for legacy homebrew, and godmode9 for fixing things. So if you end up using Luma Updater and it turns out the latest Luma won't boot on your system (due to a bug or incomplete download), you can use gm9 and/or Rei-Six to fix it on the go without needing to have a screwdriver and USB OTG adapter on you.

Is there a way to convert homebrew to .firm?

This is a sorta loaded question. Some of it yes (and that which can be is pretty much stuff that existed in a9lh format) a lot of it not so much, as there's no real OS loaded yet at that point (thus hardware drivers for the various system components would have to be manually turned on in order to make use of them). Also that's sorta out of the scope of this topic, I think.

I was just asking because one of the first lines is this post is "It allows you to assign homebrew in .firm format to bootslots"

it also let's you select any .firm to boot once with a basic file explorer :) really handy for those one time boots of a new utility you don't intend to use more than once

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
