I mean why the hell would be talking about cloning food at a backup loader thread. lol

Yes please.
Because cloning a game isn't stealing any money out of the developers pockets when u don't have the money in the first place to buy said game and some idiot brought up cloning to cover up a losing argument

Yes, please back to topic!!!!

I'll start:
Is anyone currently working on a backuploader?

Maybe not yet by using full cartridge dumps.

How about redirecting romfs to a path on sd?
(Just like Loadiine...)

A backup loader has to have a signature check of some kinda before a /CFW can even load a flashcart/FC dump XCI file, but there isn't one those yet.

One of the biggest problems with coming up with backup loaders, is with all the nintendo info released, coldboot exploits, tons of public decryption keys, etc. -- There is no actual private signing keys, those made modding the PS3 and Wii a ton easier, allowing actual modules to be replaced, and games repacked.

If and when an actual private signing key gets released for the Switch then you will see the whole game of dongles/payloads/jigs/cfw change the piracy and homebrew world, and make things a ton easier to develop, etc.

Signing keys are irrelevant when you can patch out sig checks.

Not really, if you want to rewrite the nand, and have the bootrom naturally boot up a modified firmware, you need to still sign it correctly, if we had private key then we could stop using RCM all the time.

Second, when it comes to some checks via online, nintendo can detect that stuff running is not signed correctly, they do their own server-side checking, you can't patch their servers.

Thirdly, there is even a u-boot payload signing key, imagine if we had that, we could upload payload totally legit in rcm mode, without using a usb-stack-exploit in bootrom, making things even more easier.

Fourth, a signing key for games, would allow us to repack games for lower firmwares, or include updates to the original cartridge.

I have only ever bought two games in my entire life, the first one was Super Mario Land (along with a Gameboy at the same time) in 1995. I saved and did odd jobs and somehow managed to get enough to afford it. Fortunately back then my parents could pay the bills while I focused on finding ways to make money.

Now as an adult my entire paycheck goes to towards food, rent, bill, etc. I have $20 saved right now. Every single game I've played since then has been pirated on my PC. I spent the last 6 years saving a few bucks here and there to afford some new things for myself. Along with some fortunate circumstances I managed to save $450 by 2017 and bought a Switch and BOTW in December. Now my time is done with this game and I am looking for a new one.

I hope people here now understand my circumstances and accept why I am driven to piracy. It is the only way I can get some joy in my miserable existence.
I understand your frustration. I spent all my Youtuber money on Switch's premiere day and it cost me almost 800 dollars or more, the worst is that neither game had. The worst thing is that I have done many races and I have not got a job, so that people understand that having or not studying will allow you to get a good salary, that is lucky if you do not have bad companies and you always have job opportunities. But I do not in spite of all the races that I have done. The only valuable thing that I have right now is the Switch and it is that almost nobody would buy it, there is not even a business to do welding or repairs. Piracy has always helped me to be close to what I can not pay. But believe me if my salary were the minimum wage I would not need to be here and I would already have a collection of Video Games. I hope to be able to load Backups soon.

I don't think I was ready for this. That was quite depressing.

Is anyone actually working on a backup loader at the moment ? Seems like we have a lot of the pieces in place to create one.

Dump your own carts -> Via PegaSwitch
Load patched kernel module -> Via Hekate (I think)

Looks like the only real hurdle left is to patch the fs module, from what I can tell this would consist of patching the OpenGameCard Storage / FileSystem functions to read the XCI from the SD card instead of talking to the GameCard hardware directly.

There doesn't seem to be any convenient function that would allow for creating a storage interface (IStorage) to an arbitrary file on the SD card. So that might be quite a bit of work, although there is a function for getting a storage interface to a file based upon title ID and storage id OpenDataStorageByDataId. (I'm not sure of the implementation of the function but hopefully it would be possible to ask for the on the SD card for a specific title id and then we could create the directory and load the XCI from there)

Also signature checks might not be a problem as I think those are handled by the gamecard hardware. https://gist.github.com/SciresM/d31aa89f46a8ab18345b56fbeb3cebc9

Does anybody have any more information on the topic ?

With Super Smash Bros Ultimate just announced, let's hope we get a Christmas gift in form of a backup loader (if before then, even better)

.nsp, not .xci.
.xci is cart image, .nsp is installer package.

We'll see how long it will take him to release final version... Still great news though.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.
