Is the case easy to print? Have you printed the case? What settings did you print? Layer thickness/speed/material?
Will you sell only the PCB, so I can print the plastic my self?
If you want I can try to print some and send pictures of the outcome this weekend, but I didn't see any STL files.
I haven't tried it on my own printer yet, I'm waiting on some parts that were supposed to be here yesterday. My Z axis has sticking issues I traces down to the flexible couplings so I'm waiting on rigid ones along with better stepper drivers.
I'm not sure if the jig will be printable on FDM but the cap and case should be. I'll definitely be offering the board only without a case, and I'll also be offering cases without a board. If you have the capability to make part or all of the dongle yourself I encourage you to do so.
Since you're the first to offer, I'll send you the meshes this weekend if you'd be so kind as to provide feedback on how it goes!
I dunno what you pay currently for the PCBs but you could give JLCPCB or other chinese PCB makers a shot. The prices are unbelievable low and the quality is fine. Maybe you can get the costs down a bit more.
I actually placed an order at JLCPCB before I went to bed last night as PCBGOGO is taking absolutely forever to ship and they got my address wrong twice now. The boards I ordered a month ago from JLCPCB were flawless and much better than the ones I normally get from Seeed. Last night I discovered LCSC.com, a parts store like Mouser or Digikey but based in China. Did some research and they sell legit parts, and the best part is that they're owned by the same company as JLCPCB so they combined shipping with my boards for free! I was able to find almost all of my parts there for a good bit cheaper, including the Korchip supercap I want. So the price will remain $23USD/$30 CAD!
Only the ATSAMD was more expensive, and I couldn't find Dotstar 2020 LEDs or the right Type C connectors, but I have good sources for those already so it's not a problem.
I have 100 more of every part - save for the USB connector and the ATSAMD - on the way now, plus 200 more boards. As soon as I know the prototype works well, I'll order those too, so the first "public" batch of 100 should be out as soon as the testers confirm all is well. The ATSAMD is pretty expensive at $3.35 each in batches of 100 and each USB connector is $1 so that's why I'm waiting.
Gosh, put me in line to purchase one !
Tbh, I might want to get a few of them. I heard the test batches are taken, but I want to be in line for some.
I was hoping maybe having multiple ones. Like 1 for SX OS, 1 for Hekate, and 1 for whatever else is out there. Would you be willing to do custom labels for them if you were to consider doing 1 for each cfw?
@MatinatorX
Ey, sign me the fuck up laddie. I don't care how much this could cost, it's better then SX PRO imo.
Honestly I'm blown away by how much support this has gotten. Thank you so much everyone!! I'll share news about new batches and progress and stuff as soon as I can! I'm sorry if I'm not able to respond to everyone here but if there's anything I haven't answered in the thread anywhere, just send me a PM and I'll get back to you.
I haven't thought about payload specific labels but that's not a bad idea. I haven't really gotten any takers for my idea of making a nice retail-style case for these (turns out I can get blank Switch cart cases pretty cheaply) but it's something I think would be fun so I'm doing it anyways. Going to do up some nice cover art and instructions based on the picture in my first post. This also solves the problem of packaging since it'd be safe to ship in a bubble envelope if it's in a hard case.
As long as I'm getting the case insert printed I might look at specific payload stickers, but I wouldn't be able to use the name of anything that's trademarked etc. so it might just be a single color sticker you can use to differentiate or something. Open to suggestions.
Again, thanks everyone for your support! I'm hoping to ship the first batch of 10 tester units next Friday or the following Monday so stay tuned!
