Your niece is very lucky to such a caring and responsible family.

Has her opinion of "real games" changed?

Sadly, not by much -or- mixed results. I'm afraid I was semi- too late in introducing her to video games. :(

While I hoped my niece would have picked and enjoyed at least one classic RPG like Zelda or Pokemon, her interests lie more in watching YouTube these days, especially those Tasty food videos (nothing wrong with that!). Funny enough, she briefly got into Cooking Mama and even managed to get her mother/my sister to try it out, lol.

She's been busy with middle school and dance, so doesn't have a lot of free time to play her n3DS.

When she does dusts off that 3DS, the occasion is to challenge me in Mario Kart 7 at the 150cc cup level. Her racing and drift skills have gotten pretty good, but not quite enough to stave off my troll driving. Muhaha! I'm going to introduce her to the CTGP-7 mod pack the next time we face off. :)

***

It's not all bad though. Other than MK7, we managed to beat 3D Streets of Rage in co-op mode during her summer vacation. Good times were had beating hookers with lead pipes and each other; the rare scenario black guy on white chick violence is "okay", lmao.

Edit - We're continuing on 3D SoR2 the next chance we get for more violent fun times! Yay!

Fellow GBAtemper and true hardmodder @Dennis G has this say about bluetooth (and other cool mods!) on his n3DSXL:

There's also attaching an external bluetooth receiver to the 3DS like what Junstar did with her/his n3DSXL and Monster Hunter hand grip:

Hi Mr. Poo. Exceptional work on these mods! They look amazing! I'm not that confident in my moding skills and I plan on doing the c stick replacement with the Insten cap. Could you give me some pointers possibly? It's a little hard for me to follow instructions via words, and I'd rather be sure I know what I'm doing. I hope this isn't weird if I ask this but could I possibly pay you to do the mod? Sorry if that question is a little off-putting, I just don't want to screw this up. Thanks in advance Mr. Poo. :D

Thanks but I don't offer hardware modding services. Only online help.

If it's within your budget and you have the patience for Hong Kong shipping, go with the Lenovo super low profile TrackPoint. It's one of the easiest mods to pull off with no special tools required. You literally rip off the crappy stock nub with your fingers and pop in the new red one. The Lenovo nub makes for a better casual usage c-stick replacement than the Insten Sony PSP cap.

Sort of off topic from the hardmod conversation, but I can totally relate to this on the cool uncle level. I put together a 3DS with Luma for my little nephew a couple Christmases ago. Just like your niece, he had a janky tablet, but no sort of gaming system whatsoever. He is raised by his grandparents and they don't have much money, and much less a desire to buy a gaming system. If you can only have one system, 3DS is a pretty damn good one for so many reasons.

Wow dude, most of these are pretty cool ideas! You really put a lot of blood and tears into personalizing/improvements! I esp. love the
c-stick mod replaced w/ the PSP cap, that looks really comfy :}
I didn't read all of the comments, but a lot of them I did.. anyhow this is more of a softmod rather than 'hard' (heheh),
but has anyone mentioned the NTR/Capture Card/Streaming mod? Just thought I'd throw that one out there

I later swapped out and upgraded my niece's n3DS with the Lenovo super low profile trackpoint cap,
To learn more about this mod, start around post #20:
Other threads cover video capture cards. These are unfortunately no longer available to buy. :(

It would be nice to form an open source team that could reverse engineer the katsukity design with build of materials and CAD & circuit schematics. The other hard part is programming the software that records or stream the video on computer.
This type of undertaking would be rare if the incentive is to simply make the statement, "we fookin' did it".

Once blueprints are shared, people with 3D circuit board printers and enough capital could start small batch manufacturing them.

Umm... scratching my head here.. My "capture card" is just solely a softmod.. no hardware required at all. I just recently figured it out; my n3dsxl streams the screens and audio to a computer (or Xbox) for recording and/or playing on a larger TV (or comp.) screen. You can also use an Xbox or bluetooth gaming controller to control the 3ds. Are you referring to something that does something different?

I wasn't sure whatever you were looking for such a device, but there used to be available hardware modification video capture kit for the 3DS systems.

I know this thread is pretty old Turd, but I think your grip case actually had a defect, 'cause at least my console sits flush with the grip and it doesn't wooble or creak.
Also, the Cyber Gadget hand grip case link died, and the last time I saw one on sale was on Amazon, from a reseller from the USA and it costed around 100 bones. It sold out. The only ones remaining now (at least on Amazon) are for ones for the 3DS XL and the New 3DS LL.

I hate ordering stuff online if I can go buy it somewhere close to me, and everywhere anymore will give you a discount only if you order it online, bs. Should be a discount if I go pick it up, not order online.

Mostly for big purchases, I want it in my hands before I pay. Like a tv, I trust picking it up myself, before I'd trust it being sent thru mail/delivery. (Broken screen, etc) But yea if I can order online, then pickup at store is ok, but not all places offer that.

Thing is, if you break it driving back to your house, it's your fault. But if the delivery driver damages it, it's not your fault.
